Hi guys, I was just watching "Shaun of the Dead", which if you haven't seen it is a parody of "Dawn of the Dead". Anyway it takes place in england when a bunch of zombies come alive and then when they bite people those people turn into zombies.
Anyway there is a scene where our hero Shaun ends up wailing on a couple of zombies with a cricket bat.
After watching the scene I couldn't help but think that while the cricket bat worked adequately in that scene, the american style baseball bat would proably have been more effective.
The Cricket bat is fairly short and has flattened sides, So while there is a considerable amount of wood and weight in the bat, you don't get the skull cracking leverage that you would have with a baseball bat. Also if you hit on the flat side of the bat, you dissapate the energy of the hit over a larger area. That makes the angle you hold the cricket bat critical.
An American baseball bat is round so you don't have to worry about what edge of the bat you present to the zombie. Also because of the curvature you have the energy of the swing transfered to the victim over a small area. Also the shape of the US bat puts more of the weight farther out from the hand grip. This results in more energy in the swing. Also there are aluminum versions of the american style bat available if you like hearing that "ping" when you hit something. Also the round shape of the american style of bat I feel would be stronger due to the lack of corners to act as stress points.
But what do you think, if you had to club a zombie or a burgler, do you think the Cricket or Baseball bat would be your weapon of choice?

But those filled with cork won't be too good. And for the other side, an English Willow, not Kashmir. In the end, I would choose a baseball bat.. But if you were someone like Flintoff, Ponting or Cairns it wouldn't really matter.

Baseball bat, Dude.
Way more concentrated mass, better aerodynamics and difficult to grab or take away.
The question is...
Aluminum or Cork?...I mean WOOD!

Of course it would. You don't perhaps think that was part of the joke?
Given that hardly anyone plays the game, virtually the entire sales of baseball bats in the UK will be for use as some kind of weapon. There's a reason police batons or truncheons are a similar shape to a baseball bat, you know.

They haven't used truncheons in years. They switched to nightsticks first (still used for riot gear as a show of force) and now use the collapsable metal Asp.

Baseball bat...
If you use a cricket bat you would first have to explain to the crook what it was...Then hold it correctly....and when you were done have to go make some tea and eat mushy peas....All very complicated......Just look at the criket thread...

I wouldn't be getting into a fight in the first place! Although, either of the bats would hurt like hell. We all know that if you got hit by one of those, your pretty much screwed, not like in the movies
Can you say 'Beer Can' without sounding like a Jamaican saying 'Bacon'?
Do you remember that scene from "The Magnificent Seven" where Charles Bronson is trying to teach those farmers how to shoot, "Squeeze it Migel, like you where milking a goat!" Miguel never gets it so Bronson finally has to tell Migel to grab it by the barrel and use it like a club.
I am actually surprised that there hasn't been anybody from the commonweath who went for the cricket bat.
