I was going to www.apple.com to look at the trailers for some movies I was interested in seeing this fall. Then this trailer caught my attention: "The Queen". There was no mistake who this woman was playing. So I watched it. This is going into some behinds the scenes plot of the events after Diana's death and how the Queen handled the situation. If its okay with the moderators here, here is the link to the trailer in quick time http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/thequeen/
Do the makers of this have some sort of basis for this movie? I was very saddened by Diana's death, that was my freshman year of High School year as well.

I'm still quite shocked by all this. It's quite unprecedented. No semi-ficticious/semi-historic dramatic feature film has EVER been made about my country's head of state. This could well have an impact upon the way the monarchy is viewed (we all know the power of movies). It could have ramifications...

Yes, I was about to ask if there was any factual basis for any of this or if it's all based on conjecture and hyperbole.

I just downloaded the trailer. It looks good actually. If it turns out to be crap, the scenery and video footage would still make it a worthwhile 90 minutes.
Helen Mirren is a great actress. I would imagine the Queen is a very difficult role to play, particularly since this film seems to attempt to portray a sensitive and human side of Her Majesty we don't usually see. It's almost as if Ms. Mirren would need to 'invent' that part of her character on her own.
We are all aware of your feelings on the monarchy but make up your mind, if you accept (and by implication the above quote says you do) the Queen as your head of state then you should accept the Union Jack's place on the Australian flag.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

At least Australia is a country.

No, I don't have to do that. Why on earth should I? I live in a democracy and can oppose anything I want. Let me tell you Andz, I'm not alone in my beliefs. Your lot got rid of the Union Flag, why aren't we allowed to?

777236ER, you're not stupid. You know it's not as simple as that. A compelling case has to be put, we have to agree, not just as a majority but as an overwhealming majority. If you wish to further your argument within my country I welcome it.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's the price you pay for having had an empire. We have a shared monarchy, and I like it about as much as you do.

No, it isn't as simple as that. But it is still down entirely to Australia and Australians, and no-one else.
She's as nervous as a very small nun at a penguin shoot.
You may place your faith in the church of england, but I'm naturally reluctant.
I find it interesting that despite our combative relationship, 777236ER and I are actually advocating the same thing - making Elizabeth the second the Queen of Great Britain to the exclusion of all other nations, and making the union flag the flag of the UK exclusively. We should be best friends in theory!
Quoting Banco (Reply 22): Indeed. Have I called you a convict recently?
Wouldn't matter if you did, they were all poms anyway.

It is that simple, really. All you have to do is convince Australians that it's the right thing to do, so I don't really understand why you instead try to convince a bunch of foreigners on an aircraft website.

I am seriously not advocating anything, I really really aren't. I don't have an agenda at all! I don't care either way if Australia has the Queen as the head of state, has her as the state's number one enemy or if it broadcasts Elizabeth II Porn 24 hours a day on all TV channels.
It's not us you have to convince, its your fellow countrymen.
25 Gman94: Now we really didn't need that image put into our heads.
26 Andz: Reasoning? From me?? Surely you jest! Discussing politics is boring to me, if I do it too long I fall aslzzzzzzzzzz
27 QANTASforever: Do you think I don't realise who needs to be convinced? The idea may be simple, but you surely must appreciate the execution is an extremely complex
28 777236ER: My God. OK, fine, from this point on my official position on the matter is 'the Queen stays the head of state for Australia'. If you keep going, I'll
