Yes it sucks...

on Saturday my MSN signed out and decided not to work again, It said it was something to do with proxy or some crap..

Today i attempted to sort the proxy thing out via IE, and yay! when i do a troubleshoot i get a little green tick next to the proxy thing so that now works...

But still I cannot sign in... it still says there is an error with wirelesses (even though i dont use it)

Help someone pwease! i need to annoy people!

Seriously, MSN sucks big time, I get frequently kicked out there. It is actually impossible to have an one hour chat with two or more people without at least one of them gets kicked out.

That's because MSN has a new security system in place. To avoid embarrassments to its users, this system checks the amount of alcohol in your body and automatically kicks you out after reaching a certain level.  Wink

Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

If you have a firewall installed, check it is not set to block MSN. Also try re-installing MSN, it might sort out its connection issues automatically. If your using MSN7 upgrade to windows live and see if that helps.

If you can get into messenger, goto Options, and click the Connection tab. There is an option in there to troubleshoot your connection, try that and see what it says. There isnt really much that you can change within MSN. As long as your computer is connected to the internet, it should connect no bother.

The only other possibility is a problem at MSNs end, or with your ISP routing traffic through to them. In that case its out of your hands, just sit back and wait till it sorts itself out.

While you wait goto http://webmessenger.msn.com/ and use the web based version of MSN.

Ah thanks for that! My copy of gaim has decided it no longer wants to work (which it always seems to do after a few days of using it...) so I was looking for a new MSN client. Its a pitty this one wont minimise to the system tray though, it insists on keeping the window open in the taskbar, which is a little annoying... :S

I'll stick with my perfectly good Windows Live messenger, the only prob is it says I need to be on a NTFS HDD not a FAT32 HDD like my new laptop is and i can't change it.  Sad

Why use it then  Silly

problem solved! If you have the program open, and click minimise, it dissapears to the taskbar. However if you instead click the icon in the system tray, it will dissapear from the taskbar and hide in the system tray Big grin

A slightly strange way of doing things, but it works, so i happy now Big grin

How easy is it to change a HDD to NTFS from FAT32, and do you recommend it.

Because I need to do it to make File Sharing Folders to work in Windows Live Messenger.

Only one?!  Wow!

And you are right about being kicked out of the system... Here at work I'm stuck with Windows Messenger 4.7 (it won't let me install MSN), and yesterday it logged me out twice.  irked

WLM is a bugger to use sometimes.
The last major problem i heard of was a persons username beign too long.

My advice, keep a backup of your WLM contacts, and needs be, copy them to a new email account, not a hotmail one (once, my gmail account worked, but hotmail was dead...)

Or use Trillian.

Ive heard its a great WLM substitute.

Kev.

Surprisingly my MSN has been working fine for about half a year now! NOt a single problem, however we used to get alot of problems frequently before that. It got to the stage where I didn't bother with MSN at home and just went on it whilst in Uni, therefore basically living in uni in the library for a week, whilst also 'studying' for exams in January

You don't really need it anyway, trust me.  Wink Though I admit, I find it shocking that WLM requires one to change the file system of their harddrive just to use a certain feature. But then again, what's to expect from Microshaft Windblows?

That's Microsoft for you. No innovation and more being a copycat. May I refer you to this page (Klaus is going to love this  stirthepot  ) : Microsuck
