I should have asked some of the staff what's up with the name. Yes I know it's the guys name but I would have imagined the guy to change the name or something.
It's a great camera store and I am sure some Airliners.net photographers in San Francisco has stopped by or bought some of his stuff online.
I managed to find light bulbs for my old Argus slide projector.

Personally I think its classy, much bettername than the chain stores. Owners name=customer service that just what I think. I brought a camera or two there when I lived in Half Moon Bay.

I didn't think anyone was named Adolf anymore. He kind of screwed it up for everyone. Gasser as a last name is not in itself all that bad (unless you actually have a gas problem) but you think his parents could have been a little bit more thoughtful when giving him his name given the weirdness it has when the two naes are put together. Of course he might have been born before the war so I go back to my comment about that peckerwood screwing it up for all over Adolfs around the world.

I would assume as well that anybody with the last name Hitler changed that one as well after the war.

TOTALLY! When you think that Adofl Hitler was responsible for gassing millions during the Second World War, it is a bit unfortunate.

Most did, but not all. In fact, some years ago I read a report about a guy named Adolf Hittler ! He always suffered under his name, but he refused to change it.

From the heading, I would have been shocked if the name was ADOLF GASER but Adolf Gasser brought no immediate relation, especially since the guy's name is ADOLPHE Gasser, which, BTW, could very well be a Jewish name.

IIRC nobody in post war Germany had Hitler as last name and Adolf became extremely unpopular as well.. Hitler's real name BTW was Schicklgruber, so, if you meet someone with the name of Adolf Schicklgruber, beware,

Adolf (Adolph in English, Adolphe in French) is still a relatively widespread name and NOT at all really linked to Adolf Hitler. Switzerland for many years had a defence minister in the 1990s named Adolf Ogi. So what ...

Guys, read the sign in the first post, it is Adolph Gasser!

Correct. The minds sees what the mind wants to see. I looked right at it and my brain spelled it with an F instead of the PH.

Of course it's not linked to Hitler. I'm just saying that when you here that name you think of the one super jackass named Adolf, even if they spell it differently than that short schmuck did.

Agreed. I could give a rat's ass if someone is named Adolf, Adolph, or Adolphe. You just think of that one little guy when you hear the name. It's just that this guy's name is Adolph Gasser when it was Adolf Hitler who gassed the Jews so it seems a bit odd though it sounds like this guy was born before the war so unfortunately got tagged with a name that now has a negative connotation.

Personally I think Adolph Gasser sounds like a really bad name from a neo-nazi porn film. I suppose his trick could be that he looks like the little guy but has a gas problem and...I'll just leave it at that as anything else is most likely going to be overly offensive.

Thanks. It seems as though I stirred up more emotion by mis-spelling Adolph's name in the topic heading.  Sad

You may not but for whatever reason I do. Not saying you are right or wrong but we just see the name differently.

It's not even spelled the same as Hitler so what's your point? When you say Adolph or Adolf or Adolphe here in the States most people would think of Hitler first. That's all we're saying. The guy named just has what we would think is an unfortunate name, especially with the Gasser given the whole concentration camp thing.

Quoting Rolfen (Reply 15):

Well, I wasn't going to go there but yes...that's kind of along the line I was thinking with the guy's name.

but spoken in the same way, except the "E" instead of the "I" . And again, names like Hitler/Hettler etc are rare, while Adolf is a widespread name which has nothing to do with Mr Hitler except that he also had that first name. The worst man of Nazi-Germany, Mr Himmler had Heinrich as first-name which is even more widespread. That you jump of joy for the name Adolf is your pleasure.

This is a most stupid and tasteless discussion in the first place. Tasteless because of 6 Milliuon people murdered in concentration camps and stupid because of the linguistic irrelevance. Both in German and in English, it would be a GASER and not a GASSER, like in GASOMETER, which is a Gasometer on both languages and not a Gassometer.

But as I said before, it is tasteless amnd we should leave Mr. Schicklgruber rott in hell.
