Considering the year I had, and how close I came to die one or two months ago, I have to announce its my birthday. I don't care if I get flamed for it, or if it appears immodest. I am celebrating that I am still in this world enjoying all the things it offers and grateful that God kept me here. Since this is one of my favorite forums, I had to post it. Flamers, well, nothing can beat being alive, after almost being dead. Unless you go through something like what I've gone through, you do not understand how alive I feel.
Many more of these days will come and I'll celebrate each with the right degree of thankfulness and perspective it deserves.

Happy birthday!
Last November, I had a brush with death that affected me in some fairly noticeable ways. The prognosis at that time was not good, but things have changed much for the better.

Unless you tell us what it is you went through, we will certainly not understand how you feel.

Though in a very small proportion to whatever happened to you two months ago, your words have inspired and feed me energy to keep fighting the day to day sh!t (and boy, have I gotten some lately). Thanks for that. I owe you (and my family) today's strenght. Receive my best wish for a happy happy birthday to you.
Un abrazo bien fuerte!

I don't want to sound pedant, but that is beyond the scope of this post. Please do a search, it's all there, recounting is just not necessary. Try my recent thread starters, something like, "Is it my fault" and "Is it my fault 2" I really don't remember the complete titles, then you can read about it.

Quoting Carmenlu15 (Reply 4): P. S. I hear the chocolate pie at Pollo Campero is damn good, mind if I send that as a birthday cake?
Yes, but please let it be without chicken. Or you know what? Today I can eat all the chicken there is. The fact I can choose to do it or not, is what makes this day great for me.

Many leases have a residual payment that can equal or exceed purchasing.
What is your "buy out" cost at contract termination? Also, if you don't take care of yourself and look like shit when the lease is over, you may be docked for cosmetic damages.
Watch out for hidden charges like Disposal Fees. If you die before the term ends....man, they can really rail you.
It also matters if you intend to lease your life again after contract termination.
In the long run, it's better to buy now while you're still not worth much and in 15 years, you can rest on your laurels!

Quoting Aleksandar (Reply 8): Today is my birthday, too but I don't feel any reason to celebrate it.
Well, I cannot and will not be your tinkerbelle of birthday celebrations. But think about the alternative to your birthday. If you get to the right attitude and you make the effort to make yourself get into that attitude, you'll have much to celebrate, and it does not have to do with cake, presents or anything else. It has to do with you. That in itself is a lot to celebrate.

Happy birthday! I am so glad you are able to celebrate this birthday, as close as you came to having no more birthdays. How are you doing? Are you healing well, inside and out? I definitely hope that the coming year is much, much better for you.
We're lying in the gutter but we're looking at the stars

Congratulations on being very old. First question - where's the cake ? No self-glossing birthday threads without accompanying cake - it's a by-law or charter, or something.

Hola Martin
Indeed you have signed a new lease on life, and I hope things go better for you from now on. You have endured things most here would not dream of, and managed to keep your bearings during the storm. That is commendable and admirable.
That being said, I hope you take a few hours off from all that happened and truly enjoy your day.
Indeed. I should have read it a long time ago, but it took me until this year to do it. Would have saved my self a lot of trouble.
Quoting Aleksandar (Reply 12): Well, I'm in the middle of family crisis. I wrote about it on Non-Av.
I'm sorry about that, but today or yesterday, it's about you. At least in my case. Remember that everything has its own time and will eventually go away. Nothing is forever.
