I suppose the majority of people use MSN but I see some use only ICQ, AIM or Yahoo. I personally know very few people who use those and wonder if they actually have many contacts using that.

So fellow A.netters, which IM device do you use?

I personally use MSN(my add is bandoleroman@hotmail.com).
Back in 1999&2000 I used ICQ but very quickly chnaged to MSN when it came out in 2000

Sam here. I did use ICQ a long time a go but not anymore. I found MSN Messenger much more convenient than ICQ

I use XP's windows messanger unless someone wants to interact in such a way that I need to fire up MSN messenger.

I used ICQ a few years back to chat with someone who only used that, but found it a bit 'micky-mousy', and like you suggest, they were the only contact I had on ICQ. Everyone I know uses MSN (or windows messenger).

I use AIM (via Apple's iChat) nearly exclusively, although I maintain an MSN account.

Uhh, I have 5 on MSN, and nearly 100 names on AIM.

(We've actually been over this before. MSN is far more popular in Europe, and AIM is far more popular in the U.S.)

I reckon AIM is mostly used in the U.S as all the people I know who use AIM live in the U.S

never knew ICQ was still that big.
i recall back in 99-2000 all my friends had ICQ...then gradually everyone changed to MSN so I stuck on to MSN. For one moment I had AIM, Yahoo, ICQ and MSN. useless to say how slow my computer at the time became

I use Skype (sporadically) and EasyMessage, on which I have configured my MSN, Y! and ICQ accounts. IM me for my names if interested.

Just MSN for me, I've tried some of the others but found them quite irritating now that I'm used to the plus version. MSN can though be an utter git sometimes, still its free so I shouldn't complain  biggrin

Well that's a guess of yours without anything to back it up. A good 20% of my AIM buddy list live outside the U.S. It seems that the deciding factors if you live outside the U.S. are if you had a Mac or were on the AOL system when you first started chatting, then you probably went with AIM. If you had Windows and the MSN system, then you probably went with Messenger.

AIM and MSN and Gadu-Gadu

I only know a couple people in the USA who use MSN (and they are foreigners). Everyone uses AIM here, unlike in Europe where I find the big majority uses MSN.

Gadu-Gadu (GG) is a Polish IM...because Polaks in Poland dont know what AIM or MSN is...so they are in their own little world

I use Trillian  Wink I can be connected to AOL, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, AND IRC at the same time  Wink

25 Post contains images AeroWesty : Ted, it's gauche to advertise desperation.
26 NorthStarDC4M : one word: Trillian I have MSN, Yahoo, AIM and ICQ accounts (actually several of some) and Trillian works best at keeping them all straight while using
27 Ajd1992 : MSN + Skype. All of my friends use MSN, none of them have even heard of AIM. MSN is certainly more popular in Europe. MSN: druggietoad2k5 (at) md69 (d
28 Andz : Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo and QQ. I used to use AIM and ICQ.
29 TedTAce : You missed this part: I have NEVER used Trillian to talk to people on more then 2 diferent services at a time. I do have to admit 'conecting' to 4/5
30 FutureSDPDcop : I use AIM (cooterjuicekid) and very seldom use Yahoo!
