Question About Translation Assistance At ATL

We have a Japanese relative coming to ATL and she does not speak English. Does anyone know if there is any assistance available at ATL to help direct her through the airport so she can find her ride? Obviously they cannot come to her gate to pick her up.

There isn't much help that I can think of. I can't remember right now but some of the signs in the E Concourse have multiple languages. Now if Japanese is one of them is still up in the air. I have noticed little dinky signs getting posted around the airport but they are only in Spanish so that doesn't help her out.

Have her ask around on the plane for folks that are fluent in both. I'm sure someone could help her out. Perhaps one of the stewardesses could help out.

Remember that her immigration forms must be filled out in English.

That might be enough to allow you through security to at least wait in the the International Arivals area out on Concourse E if TSA is a in a good mood (don't count on it.) Of course that doesn't help her get through Immigration/Customs but they pretty much herd you in that direction so you can't get lost like you could on the train.

Have you checked the main ATL website to see if they offer such services?

She is arriving in ATL as a domestic passenger after connecting in Detroit.

I checked the ATL web site but the only info they have in Japanese is about how to get through customs and get on the train from international arrivals.

Ah, you never said she was connecting in Detroit. They'll at least have some good Japanese signage there for her to get around even outside of Immigration/Customs because of all the flights on NW to Japan.

Again, I would check with the airport and explain the situation and perhaps they will allow you to meet her at the gate. It's a simple request they should be willing to allow.
