Hey guys!

Today, most people recognize that Patronous Twin Tower Kuala Lumpur is the Tallest Building in the World.

However, why do some people say Sears Tower is the tallest instead?

Can anyone explain why? I suppose Sears Tower is taller if you include those two pointed things on the top........

What about World Trade Center? What was the ranking for it?

I heard that Hong Kong may build the tallest building at Kowloon West.......... Can anyone confirm this?

The CN tower is NOT the world's tallest building...it is the world's highest freestanding structure. The tallest building is the Petronas towers, the Sears tower is the tallest building in the Americas. I hope that clears things up  Smile

Nope the Sears is listed as the tallest only because the inhabitable floorspace goes about three floors higher than the Pet towers.
I didn't belive it at first, but I have been to both places, and the numbers that say that do add up. Cheers

In actuality the antennas on the top of the sears tower are taller than the top of the spires on patronas. For some reason most don't count antennas as a part of the building but they do count spires.

Check out this "Worlds Tallest" diagram to see the heights.

Actually, the Petronas towers have lower occupiable space than the Nation's Bank Tower in Atlanta, GA.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as the WTC anymore. At least if you talk about New York City.
Really sad that they only want to rebuild it about 50 stories high.

Petronas tower - highest architectural top (without spires)
Sears Tower - highest placed roof, highest placed floor
WTC - was highest in the world with spires, I don't know the current status

When you stand on the top floor of the Sears Tower you are around 440m above ground level. However if you stand on the top floor of the Petronas Towers you are only about 380m above the ground.Thats the same height of the empire state building. The reason why the twin towers are the tallest is because they have a 70m spire on top while Sears only has to radio antannae which are not counted. Its a cheap trick.

The WTC didn't have a "spire"; it had an antenna. The ESB, Chrysler Building, etc. have spires.

I guess it's all in how you define "building".

A byte from the CN website mentions that CN Tower is the TALLEST BUILDING in the world! .......

>> Defining the Toronto skyline, the CN Tower is Canada's most recognizable and celebrated icon. At a height of 553.33m (1,815 ft., 5 inches), it is the World's Tallest Building and Free Standing Structure, an important telecommunications hub, and the centre of tourism in Toronto. <<
