First of all, NASCAR is not at all crap. It's much more entertaining to watch than F1 in my opinion (although F1 will be much better when Schumacher leaves). And secondly, you may be right about Villenuve getting his ass kicked, or you might not. Two totally different styles of racing, if he can adapt, he'll do fine. I think Montoya has a better chance with Childress than Villenuve does with Roush however. I wouldn't expect all that much out of the two of them in their first year, it will take a while to get used to a 43 car field, shorter tracks, and almost twice the races, much more than twice if they partake in the Busch series too.

I do love how tons of open wheel fans call NASCAR crap, and yet in North America it is absolutly huge, growing in Mexico, and Canada at a rapid pace too. And not only that, you don't see any NASCAR driver's dying to go to open wheel racing, but NASCAR seems to be getting interest from some pretty big F1/Indy names, Danica Patrick, Paul Tracy, Juan Pablo Montoya, Jacques Villenuve etc...

I do as well, but remember both have raced in IndyCars/CART so they're used to the ovals. Both have won the Indy 500, and both have an American open wheel championship. Both were rookie sensations in America, and both were supposed to dethrone Schumacher. I give JPM the edge b/c he is a) younger b) had his tenure in the USA later than Jacques; in other words, it shouldn't be as "foreign" to JPM. Both will be on teams that know how to win, unlike Christian Fittipaldi a few yrs back... who probably shouldn't have been in NASCRAP in the 1st place.

Almost not worth responding to a thread with such a horrendous typo in the Title  wink

Likely so. Very few folks can transition from Open Wheel to NASCAR successfully . . . it takes talent to drive in either division, it takes a LOT of talent to drive in both, it takes a Hell of a Lot of talent to drive successfully in both. I don't think Villeneuve has the talent . . . he may be able to go fast and turn left, but he's going to be out there with the likes of Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, Jeff (Pretty Boy) Gordon, etc . . .

I wouldn't consider her a big name unless you count someone who can't win a race in two years but is still hailed as one of the greatest drivers ever.

Hot? sort of
Good driver? yes, they all are
Winner? Not at that upper levels

Her interest in NASCAR was the work of her daddy trying to pimp her out (in lack of a better term) for more money and exposure. Win a race in your own league sweetie before you try to conquer another one.

I'm not a NASCAR fan but do watch it time to time and admire the driving talent.

As ANCFlyer states it will take a lot of talent to be able to perform in both F1 ans Nascar.

My prediction, Villeneuve will get bitch slapped  splat  big time by the good ole boys and he will go crying  weeping  back to his Monaco home after only a few races.

Here's the thing, I think that both JV and JPM can do well w/ the good ol' boys, hell JPM's driving is better suited for NASCRAP, just as long as they can check their egos, curb their tempers, and keep their mouths shut. This isn't Formula "Whine."

NASCAR ain't afraid to hand out the fines . . . monetary and points . . . for infractions. If those two lose their minds on the track they'll pay. Ask Little E, Smoke, Pretty Boy . . . they've all paid the piper . . . it costs Little E a shot at the Championship last year . . . he said SHIT on live TV. $25K fine, 25 driver and 25 team points . . .

I think she's a big name. But you're right, she's sure not a big performer. She's famous for being a woman in a predominately men's sport, that's about it. And she is pretty hot too.

Montoya's going to Ganassi, not RCR. In any case, he'd be better off at RCR. Ganassi's teams haven't done well in Cup since '02.

I certainly hope so, if in fact Villeneuve did sign with Roush. But I still think JV would get his backside kicked by the regulars in his rookie season, even at Busch level.

(NASCAR certainly isn't NASCRAP - it's just virtually the polar opposite to F1 ... both are immensely enjoyable forms of motorsport if you understand their differences)

But you're forgetting that Montoya spent 2 successful seasons with Ganassi in CART/IRL already ... that's a relationship he won't have with RCR. The Ganassi move makes sense on all levels really.
