Basically I logged in and basically all my contacts are gone and my account is pretty much like i never logged into it. My screen name is reset to my email address. I have 2 reports of people with lost contacts tonight. Is anyone else experiencing this. I really need some feedback as I am not sure what to do. I submitted a question to Microsoft MSN help. This morning it was fine and at 8pm I go to log in and EVERYTHING is gone except for my userpic lol.

Its just a bit scary when you log into an account you've had for 6 years and all of a sudden its all reset.

YES!

But, only at my university accomodation. MSN runs fine here at home, but for some reason when I get back to my uni accomodation it will let me log in, but displays me as having 0 contacts and whilst I can add contacts, they will never actually get the invite to let me add them. I was blaming it on the Uni server having blocked part of msn, which is not unlikely, but what you have described is almost exactly the problem that I'm having? Strange and annoying isn't it?

I have all my account stuff on this end, then again I'm using vista with the latest live messenger. You might want to try re-installing and see where that gets you.

Funny, the same thing happened to me a while back when I installed Live Messenger. Everything was gone! I went around and uninstalled it, reinstalled 7.5 and the account was fine again...

If you're using Messenger 8.0, make sure you have full administrator access. Otherwise, the programme cannot cache your contact list.

That's why I use only 8.0 at home and 7.5 at work, or else I cannot see my contacts when I'm at work.

Funny, I do have full admin access on my home computer, yet it didn't work.

Guess I'll give 8.0 another try when I have the time to do so...

I haven't noticed any problems. I installed Live Messenger 8.0 last night and absoloutly everything is fine. I haven't heard from anybody about dissapearing contacts tho... I would e-mail the people @ MSN and see what they can do, if anything.  Smile

There should be a backed up .ctt file somewhere, if you select 'File - import contacts from saved file' once you've found this file it should get them all back.
Thanks

On my one (mac msn 6) it automatically backs up the contacts in a .ctt file, I suppose windows should do the same.

Im really at my wits end with this shit. How the fcuk can MS have a serious problem and not even over a release, response or try to fix it. Everyone uses MSN so I am stuck with it. I gotta spend an hour going through chat logs to find email addresses and thats only like half of them.

Screw you MS. I finally see why people are going to Macs.

Umm did you bother to uninstall then reinstall? Or try a system restore to the day before it stopped working.
