Do any other nations have three day weekend government holidays the way we do in the States? Columbus Day, Presidents Day etc....I'm waiting for our hard earned tax dollars to fund these additional ideas for three day holiday weekends where the rank and file paper pushers who work for the government can get paid to have the day off courtesy of us the tax payer.

  • January: Elvis Birthday weekend, Superbowl blowout weekend
  • February: Groundhogs day weekend and valentines day
  • March: Ides of March and March madness weekends, Academy Awards weekend
  • April: April Fools
  • May: May day weekend
  • June: plant your garden weekend, Flag Day
  • July: MLB All star break/game weekend
  • August: Zippyjet day (my birthday Aug. 19 and that of Orville Wright!)
  • September: Emmy Awards weekend
  • October: Halloween weekend
  • November: Election day and World Series Weekends
  • December: Boxing Day weekend, and Pearl Harbor day weekend.

These in addition to the established holidays! Imagine how many mattresses could be sold! We'd really pack our planes and Disney World and Las Vegas would be in hog heaven.

I forgot when Sadie Hawkins day falls but, hell add this to the three day government worker bonanza of paid holidays.

I'm Zippyjet & I approve of this message!

We've got Melbourne cup day coming up here soon (always 1st tuesday in November) that is a public holday here in Melbourne. It's quite common for people to take the Monday off to make it a 4 day weekend. Cup week is always slow business wise, not only is there the Cup run on tuesday, there is Oaks day on the Thursday that is almost as popular as the main event - evrey secreatary/receptionist in Melbourne seems to be there dressed to the nines swilling champagne!

Over here we usually have at least one holiday each month. However, they are observed on a fixed day, rather than 'the 2nd Friday' or 'the 3rd Tuesday' or whatever...

The good thing is, this year most holidays happened to fall on either Monday or Friday!  bigthumbsup
