I saw a blurb on the net in regards the new movie, "The Last King Of Scotland". In a nutshell the film which stars Forrest Whitaker as Idi Amin, follows the life of Idi Amin's personal physician. I have not seen a release date for Australia but that is probably moot as I'll be heading home to the states in a few weeks. However even in the states from what I hear, only LA and NY will see this movie as there appears to be no plans for a national distribution of the film (I find this very odd to say the least). Has anyone else stateside seen this film outside LA or NY? If so what did you think.?

Idi Amin was a Ugandan, who stole power in a coupe d'etat, then proclaimed himself to be:
"His Excellency President for Life Field Marshal Al Hadji Dr. Idi Amin, VC, DSO, MC, King of Scotland, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular."
What a strange man, although you cant blame him for proclaiming to be King of "the best small nation in the world" (tm)

He was also a mass murdering despot.
Racist too, he threw out all the Ugandan Asians, a long established community.
Most came to the UK, most with nothing, now they are seen as the most successful immigrant group in terms of wealth creation, of the post war era.
After the expulsion, Uganda's economy tanked.
Things like this make me cringe when you saw hatchet faced, finger wagging harridan's like Miss Dynamite blame all of Africa's ills on the British, from the Live8 stage.
Her last album flopped, she was recently counted as having 98 'friends' on her Myspace site.

Yeah I agree! But I think he got that name when he was in Scotland training for the RAF, or so I was told.
Actually Idi Amin was the first black officer in the british army (entire empire).
Personally I think the actor they got to play Idi Amin doesn't look like enough of an ape, when compared to Idi Amin.

There is talk of him getting an Oscar Nomination for this role. I'd love to see him get it. I have always enjoyed his work, and I have met him before and he is a great guy to be around.

Hey Guys,
I was not able to make it to the movie last night, and ended up seeing 'The Departed', the new Scorsese movie with De Caprio, Nicholson and Damon.
'King' was showing on the West Side of town, and to those of us that live on the East Side of Manhattan, it might as well be Swaziland. After hearing the usual jokes about "West Side? I think my visa's expired.." I gave up.
I hope I can see it in the next couple of days, and if so, will be glad to post a summary.

Wait, Scotland had kings? Wow! I thought you were ruled by England and just got too pissed up one night, made a flag, bought some sheep and set yourself up as a country.
Doors open, right hand side, next stop is Springfield.

As one of the descendants of the last king of scotland i'm offended by the likeness, and the comment.

What he means, spotty youth, is that King George VI was the last king of Britain, which still includes Scotland, despite what they think. Get a grip, you are letting your age group down - you could almost be a chav!
