Perhaps A-net isn't the best place for this but here goes. Juveniles elsewhere please.

Due to an ever increasing family size we are considering getting a Nanny/aupair and both Argentina and Uruguay are both easy country's for NZer's to get such people from.

I was wondering if any here could share any general opinions or observations about the level of maturity, work ethic, general outlook etc of 22-26 year old women from these 2 places. For example, Japanese girls this age are pretty immature and naive and unworldly, Russians and Ukrainians the complete opposite - in my experience.

I know all such things are of course generalisations but any thoughts appreciated.

I am 26 and I had an Argentine girlfriend a couple of years ago... We used to go to Bs.As. on vacations to see her family ever we got the chance. And what I always saw was the same mentality you find in the rest of Latin America.

Whenever we were there it was just party after party, Argentinians as the rest of latin americans don't stop. I used to listen around 2 or 3 in the morning. "La noche apenas está en pañales" (Night is barely on diappers)

Argentinians are very patriotic, absolutely love soccer, like a lot to work and are extremely kind. They have a great sense of humor, girls are so sweet, and for a good part of the Argentina's population they are very nice looking. (That goes for both genders)

A nanny in Argentina is almost considered a another member of the family, so you could imagine what's their mentality... (Parents are close, nice family values, etc...)

I don't have anything else that good memories from Mercedes or "Meche" as I used to call her. She was by far the most splendid girl I ever date and was 100% Argentinian. Why did I broke up with her? Well her father was a succesfull manager in a huge company here in Mexico City and eventually they were asked to move to South Africa. We are still being friends...

I am almost sure that if you hire an Argentinian au pair or nanny is going to be a great experience and a lot of laughs.

I don't know for Uruguayans but I bet they are very close the same. Eventhough their Spanish accent are very similar so as the way of life, Argentinians and Uruguayans dont't like to be confused among them. So just keep on mind their nationalities and everything is going to be just fine...

Hope I helped you... drop me some lines if you have any doubts...

Thanks very much. Especially good to hear about wanting to be part of the family, we're not looking for a house-keeper but someone who will live with us so that's important.

It's my impression they would naturally be serious about child care rather than just coasting along for an overseas trip. What do you think ?

I live in a pretty remote place so the party scene might be tough going ... in your opinion can/do they appreciate the quieter things in life ?

Also, would a 25 year old Argie .... with a drivers license necessarily have much driving experience e.g. in NZ they would for sure but in Japan or even the UK probably not.

Pacificjourney, They should all have a good work ethic and inviting warm personalities. Just be aware that your Mrs could well be threatened by a 25 year old Argentinian female around the house, because they are generally stunningly gorgeous and great company to be around....

I think they'd be great from either country, you can learn Spanish, and she can learn English... very worthwhile

You're an inspiration - I think I might just get myself an live-in babysitter from Argentina...lol

Argentina is a big country, with a multicultural society. It's very difficult to answer your question. You have to specify more about what kind of personnel and for what purpose.
Las Portenãs" Girls from Buenos Aires" are very Europeans what makes them very different from the provincial one's

Why are you outsourcing? No labor pool to choose from at home? Somehow I think there is a bigger story in his question of yours. In my opinion, nannies are a waste of time and a cop out on parenthood. Good luck in your quest for another "family" member. I guess.

In my personal opinion, I'll probably think both. More on the overseas trip though. But again... and I insist a lot on this... it's my personal opinion. Due to the 2001 economic crisis in Argentina there were a couple of thousands of Argentinians working in Mexico, some of them became very successful opening their own restaurant, or model agencies...

Sure... without a doubt. But I am more on the fact that probably depends on the girl's personality. Hanging out maybe one or two weekends a month would be awesome for me.

Probably it would be better to teach her how NZ drives... Every single time I went to Bs. As. I noticed people drive the same as in Mexico City... People don't use turn signals, cut you off or drive very erratic. Driving law in Mexico is not enforced and I think in Argentina it isn't too, but I am not sure about that.

What an ignorant thing to say. Let me ask you, do you know what job PacJourney has? Do you know his life style, do you know his wife's lifestyle. Did you ever consider that one of his children may require special attention?

Think before you speak.

Then she'll fit into driving in NZ perfectly....

My wife can hold her own in this regard but she is hinting that flat-chested with bad teeth would be preferable. Perhaps Cliiperhawaii's twin is looking to finally get of the streets ?

That's a worry as she would most definitely have to drive around here but important not too generalise in these things.
