Over the past several years, my father has been suffering from a liver disease. He's tried all the usual stuff - medications, crazy diets, etc, but it finally came to the point where it was evident that he'd require a transplant.

So after being on the list for a few months, the call came this morning, and he's having the procedure done today. It carries some significant risk (very small percentage-wise, but for someone like me who knows very little about these kinds of things, it sure sounds high). So I'm rather on-edge about the whole thing (not being able to be there doesn't help), though there isn't much of a choice in the matter - it was either today or back on the list for who knows how long, and his condition had begun to deteriorate pretty rapidly.

So if you have any thoughts, prayers, well-wishes, or what have you, please direct them towards 40.56.37N 73.56.37W. It'd be much appreciated.

Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

Hope things go well for your dad. Tissue typing etc is probably what he is having done today - May involve a needle biopsy but with local Anaesthetic he will be fine.

Give him my best wishes and to you too, try not to worry he will be in very safe hands.

Regards
Claire

Time for an update:

Eight hours in surgery, but he's out now, and reportedly doing very well. He'll be in the ICU for the next few days at least.

Thanks to you all for your support - it means a lot. I'll have another update tomorrow once I hear from his advisor.

That IS good news. Now his spirit will kick in, and you'll have Dad back before you know it.

Thats great news that he's getting better, thought go to you and your dad in hospital.

Just a question, how old is he? You're 16-20, so I'd be guessing he's in late 40's-early 60's?
