I am thinking of taking a Februry city break to either Dubai, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona or Prague.

I've been to Dubai a few times before and It's great.

I can find cheap flights to all of the cities mentioned, I just don't know which one to go to  Wink

Can anyone reccomend me a city above, or even another city (preferably in N. Africa and Europe, excluding Marrakesh).

I would be realy grateful If you could reccomend some places to go, thanks in advance,

Rob!  wave

What about New York, or even San Francisco. I did some searching, and fares are coming back at around £260 for a return to New York from the major UK airports, and around £300 to San Francisco.

Fly on American carriers and your more likely to get 100% air miles for the distance travelled too!

Against the background you plan to visit one of the above mentioned cities in February, I would rule out Prague (too cold). And since you alredy know Dubai, I - if I were you - would opt for a different city for a change.

As for the remaining cities, Rome has more to offer when it comes to beauty and typical tourist places, but Barcelona has the better night life (and is a very beautiful city as well). Let's just say you can't go wrong with either of the cities, but my list would be the following:

Rome
Barcelona
Madrid

Maybe I'm biased as well: I just spent a couple of days in Rome again.

Rob, among the cities you've mentioned in the topic I would go for BCN. A wonderful place ! My second choice would be ROM. The weather should be o.k. in these cities, unlike PRG in this part of the year.

Of the ones you've listed, I've only been to Rome and Barcelona. Of the two, I'd definitely recommend Rome. Lots to do and see and very fast paced. Barcelona IMO was not quite as nice.

Definitely Barcelona!
If you want to enjoy one of the most impressive combinations of the European way(s) of life then visit BCN.
Go "Catalan" (and don't expect to be in Spain).

Everyone must see Rome once in their lives. The city has 2700 years of history on display, and Feb is nice and cool and relatively no tourists.

If I was you I would go to a tour of Madrid and Barcelona, both great cities with lots of things to do. Rome is also a excellent option. Weather in February in Madrid is quite cold...Plus if you live in Qatar you have now a direct flight to MAD
Anyway enjoy your break.

1st on the list for me -you'll find all you'd expect from a superb get-away-vaccation.Great food, nice people, history, the typical Italian "unexpected issues",good looking women, great shopping,a classy latin atmosphére - hey, what more do you want !
Barcelona second on my list with Prague and Madrid third on a tie..

Of the 5 you mention I have been to Dubai, Barcelona and Prague. Barcelona was the most recent, I was there less than a month ago and had a great time, it was a business trip and from the little I saw of the city I was very impressed.

Prague is just beautiful but as others have said in February it will be unpleasantly cold.

Dubai.... well it depends what you like, I was impressed by the excess in Dubai, some of the buildings are beyond belief but when you compare the history to almost any city in Europe, well, there is no comparison.

Personally I would recommend Cape Town, it is the middle of summer in February, the exchange rate makes it cheap for tourists, we have winelands, mountains, two oceans... I know it's not North Africa as stipulated but it is my personal favourite!

Give Barcelona a go. I went there in July and had a fantastic time and if you have some time on your hands you can take the train north to Figueres and visit the Salvador Dali museum all in all a great trip.

Well Andorra is great! The only problem is that it's so small that you can get to do/see almost everything in just one or two days. So I think it makes for a perfect one or two-day excursion from BCN. Great for skiing and tax-free shopping  thumbsup

Ski resorts are usually open from early December until late March-early April.

Thanks Andz for the pics  Smile

I've narrowed it down to Rome or Barcelona.

I will give South Africa a miss as I will be visiting South Africa later in the year  Smile

Can someone tell me if it is worth paying the extra £100 to fly to BCN on IB/BA/EZY rather than flying to Reus on FR?

Also how is CIA airport?

BCN is very convenient. It is just 10km away from the city centre and you can get there by train for just 1.20€. REU is some 100km south of the city and your only choice would be bus or taxi. Well, It depends on your budget but I'd say BCN is worth the £100, not only because it is more convenient but also because you would have to spend some money to get from REU to Barcelona.

There is also GRO. Did you check FR to GRO? Frequency is much higher than to REU and then there are also much more buses to Barcelona. GRO is 100km north of the city.

It may be cheaper to fly to Reus with Ryanair, and there is a special bus service to/from Barcelona timed especially for the FR flights.

This is schedule for the bus service, it takes 1 hour and 20 minutes to the centre of Barcelona (you need Acrobat Reader):

http://www.hispanoigualadina.net/pdfs/REUS%20AIRPORT.pdf

You can take Ryanair flights as well to Girona Airport. It takes 1 hour and 10 minutes to Barcelona and the bus service is more frequent:
