I have the chance of possibly working in India for a while, though at the moment I don't know exactly where (the contract agency is a still a bit hush hush about the exact location). I assume that it will be one of the big cities, either Mumbay or Delhi. Anyway, it will be line work on MD-11 aircraft (so who flies MD-11 to India?).
Now how hard is it to find affordable accomodation and then, how much will it be? How much will I have to pay for tax or is there a period I will be tax exempt, like e.g. if I work for less than 6 months in a European country?
How hard and how expensive is it to get a car?
Maybe one of our Indian fellow A.netters will be able to help.

If its Mumbai it could be Fedex.
In Mumbai Accomodation would be Expensive but you'll be comfortable with the Lifestyle.Del is a bit different.
Check your Appointment letter.it would hold the details with terms & conditions.
Language will not be a problem in BOM.
Cars are available eaisly. But the Traffic in the day is crazy.

I talked to the guy of the agency again. He still would not give me the exact location, probably to pevent me from figuring out the airline and contacting it mdirectly myself to make a deal which would exclude him. He only said that it could be either Mumbay, Delhi or Madras (I think it is called Chennai nowadays?).
I will see that accommodation is included in the contract (what is expensive in India? I don't need a luxury flat, but it should have a certain standard). About the tax, since I will probably get paid in Europe (the agency is Dutch/Irish) I don't know if they will tax me in India. Most contractors I know set up offshore accounts for their money earned abroad.
What is the electrical voltage and frequency in India? 220V/50Hz as in Europe?

Quoting DIJKKIJK (Reply 14): actualy the standard of spoken english in South Indian cities like Chennai and Bangalore is way better than in Mumbai or Delhi. I would rate Delhi the worst in this regard.
