Read this interesting new blog:

'JODY'

Quote:
...
"Jody?"

I'd never heard of it. I know al-Qaida in Iraq, the Mahdi army, and other nefarious death squads that want to kill American troops. But "Jody?" I drew a blank.

A soldier filled me in:

"Jody is the guy that's back home with your wife or your girlfriend," he said, suddenly deadly serious. "He's the guy hiding behind a corner, behind the curtain, hiding in the closet.

"I just hope that I never meet Jody. That's how I feel about it. You never want that to happen to you and you try not to be Jody yourself."

Song for ‘Jody’The troops told me about cadences, the "work songs" some sing while doing PT (physical training), dedicated to "Jody."

"Ain't no use in going back Jody's got your Cadillac

Ain't no use in calling home
Jody's got your girl and gone

Ain't no use in feeling blue Jody's got your sister too

Took away my faded jeans Now I'm wearing Army greens"

...

Looking at the comments in this blog, is it really a wide spread issue? What is the breakup rate in other countries?

Yes.

If you go away, your girl is going to sack up with some other guy.

Well, not always. But it's a pretty common occurance.

The wall of shame, it's real too.

I heard this was done also, a Marine's girl write's him a dear John letter and would he please send the picture of her he has in his care back to her. Marine doesn't get mad he gets even, he asks for all his buddys girlfriend ,sisters and mom' pictures and sends them to her. With the accompaning letter saying that I forgot what you looked like, please pick out your picture and send the rest back.
My year on a remote in Iceland had to pick up a many drunk G.I. put him back in his bed after his woman couldn't wait for him to come back. Yea, it happens all the time, G.I comes home after a year and find his wife 7 months pregnent. Have not heard this happening for awhile but some Spec Op's guys come home and wife has had enough and sometimes the wife gets killed for her unfaithfulness, and you thought that happened in only a Muslim society.

I would help you but it is not in the contract

It's been around at least as far back as World War II although I'm not sure if the name "Jody" dates back that far. I'd have to check.

Often, Axis radio would put out propaganda telling American troops that their wives and girl friends were busy with other men while they were busy fighting the war. The propaganda also would tell the British troops that their wives and girl friends were cheating on them with American soldiers.

"Jody" has been around from at least to WWII and probably before then. I heard this from a WWII myself. Go to a local VFW to confirm this.

Let's see, when did Gen Washington and a fledgling US authorize a Continental Army???

It's been around at LEAST that long.

 yawn

So what, if the bitch dumps you for a different penis, press on. There are hundreds of countries in this world, and lots and LOTS of free poooooter . . . don't get wrapped around the axle on one . . . it AIN'T worth it . . .

Experience dictates . . . .way too many fish in the sea to settle on the local aquarium.  biggrin

it is when you fall in love with someone, then get shipped out. chances are the memory of that person and spending time in their arms is what carries you through heavy flack, bombings, seeing half a unit crisped/killed, etc.

Imagine the news when the love of your life is poking around town reaches you, you aren't going to be a happy camper, I sure wouldn't be, especially if I have known and built a solid relationship with them over a period of time.

For many it is worth it, it's what keeps them going. "fighting for my countries freedom" and other bullshit takes a backseat when it involves someone they love. Much like news reaching them their mom/dad/brother/sister/etc died, the same happening when a love leaves them is a kick in the balls and knife through the heart.

i'd love to see what happens when you are placed in a situation like this. I bet you don't even have a girlfriend at this point, and if you do, i'm curious what happens when you lose her one day.

My bud just got back to Ft. Greely from Mosul. He was supposed to be deployed till December, but he got a call from AHP that his wife's ex-husband had broken into their house and beat her up. When he got home, he called her for a ride and she told him to take cab. When he got to the house, she was gone. She'd dumped him for her ex while he was off dodging bullets and IED's. What a class act.  Yeah sure

No shit, thanks for the headsup, in my 24 years time in Active Military Service that never occurred to me . . .

Been there done that, grew out of it . . . you will too (maybe) , so will everyone else . . .

My first wife died from cancer when I was 27, so no Jody song or silly assed Army cadence can make me 'feel bad' about losing my girl. They're humor, they're funny, and it does NOT happen as often as you might suspect. Regardless, you grow up and you continue . . . . you press on and you continue to live . . . there's plenty more out there . . . and they LUV GIs with uniforms . . . . you're a H E R O.

Geezus life isn't this complicated.

If anyone has seen "Jarhead," I know it's a movie, and I'm not comparing it to real life, just giving an example, you'll see the main character in the movie go through this.

What kind of BS is it when a guy/girl cheats with a girl/guy who has a boyfriend/husband/girlfriend/wife (or any variation, haha) fighting overseas? I mean all cheating is f'd up, but this is extra f'd up.

Edit: Sorry to hear about your first wife ANC.

Dave
