Hello all,

It appears (c'est une poire) that I am coming down with some form of flu (hopefully not the bird one) which manifests itself in the early stages by a sore throat and a light temperature but also clogged (not the toilet) ears.

Can this be quashed in these early stages as I am on holiday from this evening and do not wish to be sneezing with -2 degrees when in the Elbonia.

My sister woke up this morning and told me her throat was bleeding. Thankfully she isn't too good at talking yet and she actually meant to say she had a sore throat!

So Tim, go out and buy some Calpol!

If I wake up with a sore throat, I grab some Orange Juice, swill a bit of that and then ignore it, it'll go away when it goes away.

The best cure is as follows

1 mug
1 large tablespoon of honey
juice of 1 large lemon
1 large tablespoon of brandy
Top up with boiling water

Take 2 aspirin or equivalent and drink that down as quick as you can, it works without fail. Kills all known germs dead.

Ok well it is unfortunately turning for the worse.

I went to university but came back pretty much instantly as can hardly stay on my feet.

Is turning out to be quite a nasty thing: sore throat, headache, ears, sweating.

I have the usual medication (note for skidmarks, that does not include viagrhaa).

Anybody have the quantities for someone who isn't a bear?

I fear if I take those quantities I may infact kill myself off.

A couple large cups of orange juice, a cough drop a little later, and no talking. Or enough whiskey to make you forget you have a sore throat  biggrin

Tequila. 8 one-ounce shots are known to do the trick. Even if it doesn't heal you, at least you'll be too pissed to notice it still hurts.  drunk

Seriously... The following is Mom's recipe to relief flu symptoms:

2 cups water
2 tbsp honey
The juice of 1 lemon
Eucalyptus leaves
3 cloves of garlic
A piece of red onion

Boil everything for 5 minutes, then drink it as hot as you can take it. Contrhaary to what it may seem, it tastes quite good.

Sore throat - the onset of a cold....Well, let me tell you something. With the horrible cold I just had it started with a sore throat, then quickly went to congestion which lasted for two weeks. Approx. 3 days after the sore throat a light cough started which went to a heavy hacking cough, the kind that keeps you awake at 2:36 in the AM, coughing as if a lung is trying to be expelled and never lets you get a good nights sleep. You'll never get any sleep for two weeks. I feel sorry for you.

I´ve been talking glycerine, honey and lemon and it´s been soothing my throat. I´ve also been on antibiotics from the chemist too as I have had a sore throat for over a week now.

Sorry to hear about your condition. Perhaps a bit of bed rest will do you good; if things are other than a simple cold, you may also wish to consult a doctor.

My best to you!  Smile

Nitro-glycerine works better - that DEFINITELY kills all known germs dead.

Trust me, it doesn't taste bad! The honey and lemon seem to be stronger than the garlic and onion, and the eucalyptus makes it refreshing to the throat.
