Check this out...this poster needs a reality check!

Eva Peron inspired her? What to become a whore, sleep her way to the top, loot the treasury, banish her enemies, and kill those who dared to oppose Peronism....?

Some people......

"I was born in the Deep South in 1942 and was told from a young age that women were born to get married and be mothers. While I had other dreams and goals, I was told they weren't an option. Then one afternoon in my freshman year of high school, I found a book written by the late Eva Peron. I had no idea who she was but borrowed the book. Reading "My Mission In Life" changed my destiny forever. I saw this beautiful woman and read about all of the things she had accomplished in her life -- from growing up dirt poor to becoming the first lady of Argentina. From that day forward I changed my life completely. Over the years I accomplished everything I set out to do. I traveled all over the world on my own. I lived and worked in foreign countries. I met fascinating people who changed my thinking profoundly. If it had not been for Eva Peron and her book, I can't imagine what my life would have been like."

So what if Eva Peron inspired her, why the hell do you have to attack her for it. It sounds like reading that book made a huge difference in this person's life, one could very well say an inspiring one.

Come on, be real here. I've read her book, as well as many, many other biographies on her.

How can somebody admire a crook like her!

You admire plenty of crooks, you even posted a picture of you and Frank Lorenzo. There are things I admire about Richard Nixon, that doesn't change his crooked record. You should find something better to do than surfing the e-mail poll page at CNN.com.

Yep, that's right. As a sub directory of marriage should be cook, clean, please the man etc and under motherhood should be roughly the same.

I think comparing Lorenzo and Peron is a bit of a stretch, don't you?

By the way, this was on the front page of CNN, so I wasn't surfing to much.

I just think the writer needs an objective history lesson.

If it was even remotely possible to sleep your way to the top there would be a lot more women at the top, don't you think?

Since you read her book you know Eva Duarte was already rather successful when she met an Army officer named Peron.

Besides, not all our inspiration comes from good examples.

Sure, she was a fashion model, a poor actress (in terms of ability), and by then she had already used her bedroom talents to secure better parts.

A great example for women!

That is the ultimate urban legend. Are you personally so sex-starved that you would give an important part, bet the entire bankroll of a movie production on a no-talent actress just because she will sleep with you? It is astonishing that in this day and age there are still adults who believe in this. As if sex was such a rare and valuable commodity that women could actually use it to get ahead. Do you honestly think that someone in a position to be casting a movie with good parts for atttactive women would be so desperate as that? Hell, they could nail them all and make the decision based on talent.

Movie makers are business men. (and statistically high percentage gay and therefore more or less immune to womens' charms, by the way) Parts go to a person who will add value to the production. Of course when a part is cast it is just one part being chased by three hundred actors. 299 of them are NOT going to get it. These bruised egos can't blame their own lack of talent now, can they? Of course she got it on the "casting couch" there couldn't be any other explanation.

You need to do some reading up on the women. Peron was not her first 'high ranking' bed mate. She used sex to get her way, and from all acounts was a second rate actress at best.

I really can't fathom why you are defending her?!

The reason you can't fathom it is because I am NOT defending her. I know little and care even less about her. (or Madonna)

I just understand that a women cannot become a famous actress, CEO, or Secretary of State just by being willing to grant sexual favors. The commodity they would be offering is just too commonplace to be of such value.

It is a tale told by a virgin, full of sour grapes and envy, signifying nothing.
(Shakespeare is more famous but we all know how HE got there!)

What does Madonna have to do with this? If you think I am basing my comments on Weber's interpretation you are mistaken.

We are aslo not talking about 21st century America, but rather early 20th century South America where machismo ruled and advancement for women was not an easy task by a long shot.

BTW, a total of six films does not a great actress make.

So you are saying what? That Eva Duarte was the only woman south of Arizona capable of, or willing to offer sex to Juan Peron?

Jesus man, admit it, it is a silly concept and you should never even have suggested it.

You cannot "sleep your way to the top"
Not now.
Not at any time in history.
Sex is just too easy to get to be of that kind of value.

It is pretty much a known fact that she played the starving actress bit for a while but gradually began to work her way up the ladder of success through a series of affairs with men who could benefit her. When Eva had Colonel Anibal Imbert, the Minister of Communications, as her lover, she persuaded him to stage a huge variety show to benefit a town nearly destroyed by an earthquake. At this show was Colonel Juan Domingo Peron. Their affair began that same night in 1944.

What do you call it?

It it was even REMOTELY possible to exchange sex for advancement the boardrooms would be NOTHING BUT women! Every job worth having would be held by women because sex is the ultimate renewable resource. No man could compete. But I'm tired of saying that.

Your entire attitude is insulting to both men and women.

What I did was accuse you of insulting people. You call that accusation an insult. Is calling a person on being insulting, itself, an insult? I think not.

Quoting Dtwclipper (Reply 15):
I expect better of you.

Well thank you, but I am not above a cheap shot. I don't admire them but I'm not too good...  Smile

Quoting Dtwclipper (Reply 15):

You did not read that carefully. I said I know "little" which might not be lots but is certainly more than nothing. Recall that I at least knew her maiden name without resorting to "the" Google. I know she owned an ugly/cute little Maserati that sold on ebay a couple months ago.

Quoting Dtwclipper (Reply 15):
opionion not based on fact

And yours is? You talked to Juan Peron and he told you he only married her because of sex? Re-bloody-markable! And all the others along the way. Only because she would have sex with them. No talent. No ability to fill a theater, just the old two-backed beast which she was the only woman in all of Argentina equipped and inclined (also reclined) to offer. That, amigo, is one astonishing assertion.

So, what? Monica Lewinsky really was Secretary of State under (pardon the pun) Clinton?

No my Friend, I have not spoken to Peron, but I have read a number of different books on the subject, from both points of view, ie: the Peronista, to the anti-Peron camp, so in effect, I do consider myself well read on the subject, and not just able to use "the" google.

The entire point of this, was IMO, that seeing Eva Peron as an inspiring woman is very naive and thoroughly misguided.

Whether or not you believe she used sex to gain favour and advance her career is one thing, but to admire someone who used her position of power in a quasi-fasist dictatorship is something I fail to grasp.
