There's something wierd going on here.

As some of you might have seen in the BHM Meet - The Adventure Begins Part 4 (by ANCFlyer Nov 4 2006 in Non Aviation) thread, we had a little get-together in BHM this weekend (first one I had attended BTW) and I met a lot of great people with whom my only contact before was discussing things in this and "other" forums.

Now, since I have been back home for a little while, I have read some of the things that the people I met have posted and I can hear their voices actually speaking the things that I see them posting and "see" their mannerisms and attitudes while I am reading!

Is this common? Has it happened to you? Should I seek counseling?

Maybe I can get rich because I was the first one to identify and describe this dysfunction! PAMS!

Yep!!!

If you can find a therapist who treats PAMS, then by all means  Wink However, since you are the founder, I think you might have a hard time with that!

Yes, the same thing is happening to me as I read this thread. Just be sure to not spend a lot of time on a.net and you'll be fine.

Yes, but that would be more of a general observation, rather than specific to this thread.  Smile

It's good to put faces (as deeply unpleasant and disturbing as they may be) to names, although calling people by their real names and not their username can be a bit of a strain at first.

This is funny as ANCFlyer and I talked about this while waiting for people to show up for breakfast on Saturday.

Neither do I to be honest... But I don't really care either. As long as their president doesn't know where we are, I feel safe.

It does sound strange, but it really is a small bit of a culture shock of sorts coming back home, especially when you travel off somewhere you've not gone before. You basically transplant yourself from one point to another and immerse yourself in the local flavor of the town/place and follow the local who is your trusty guide leader. And if you're all in a strange place...like Las Vegas (!)...then it's a case of the blind leading the blind. For a couple of days your schedule revolves around these people and basically every moment is spent being around these people with little or no personal or private time like what you get at home.

And what really causes all of it is the fact that you've gotten used to someone's rhetoric online and you've spent the past couple of days piecing what you know about them together with how they actually are in person.

What I find most enjoyable about PAMS is that I can look at just about any post from someone I have met and see it in a completely different light. I have a much better understanding of when they are kidding and when they are serious.

BTW, I had dreams last night of Gavin being bitten by a monkey, what does that mean?  biting

You've both written very insightful posts and they nicely summarize my experience with N1120A. I won't look at his posts any more as being meant to inflame others, but rather because of his perspective he sees things from a completely different angle than I do. Even if it is the wrong angle!  Smile
