This Guy Messed My Comp Up, Internet Vandalism!

OK, there is an AOL screen name that is not a human, it is a computer that responds. Me and my friend decided to cuss the guy (computer) out. Suddenly I got logged out of AIM and my computer shut down. I started it back up to find I have only 16 colors (low quality pictures and bad color) and a big display (640x480) instead of the medium size. Is this guy responsible? How can I fix this?

I have restarted several times. When I try to change colors back, the bar won't drag and the only option is to leave it as it is.

hmmmm.......
Try to disconnect your monitor from your computer then reconnect- see what happens....
Or
If you have another monitor from another computer try that one-try to figure out if it is monitor or computer that is messed up.

I tried reconnecting the monitor. It didn't work. Should I call Microsoft? Can someone do this to my computer?

none of these, to find out what video card you have go to: My Computer, Control Panel, Display, then click on the Settings TAB, then click on Advance , which is located bottom right of the settings tab window...

None of those three  Smile ESS makes soundcards. There's a 90% chance the video card is either ATI or nVIDIA.

I think you're a wee bit paranoid. Why don't you just change the video settings back again?

If you on 95 or 98 do this.

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Double Click on "System"
Click on "Device Manager" @ the top of the window that opened
Then look for "Display Adapters"
Double Click on "Display Adapters"
A icon should appear below
That is the information you're looking for.

It gives me a choice of 2 or 16 colours. I had 256 before. It wont let me change size either. I removed and reinstalled drivers and restarted a lot. It still won't change.

I don't dl porn. Too risky. I cussed him out and he asked for a apology. I said I'm sorry. He said its ok. Then it happened.

25 Minuteman : You could try cussing at your computer?
26 Kcle : There is always a solution. If on Win 95, click Start, Shut Down, Restart in MS-Dos Mode, and wait. The screen will go black with your MS-Dos prompt i
27 ILS : That won't work Minuteman. What part of Austin do you live in? I live in Austin too.
28 ILS : Thanks Kcle, but I'm not going to risk messing up my comp any more.
29 ILS : They guy at Compaq couldn't help me. He said it was driver corruption. It obvoisuly wasn't that. I removed them, etc. and it won't work still.
30 VirginA340 : Time to buy a new monitor
31 CPDC10-30 : Well, it wouldn't hurt to back up everything and reformat. Not only will it eliminate your problem but make a big difference in performance.
32 Strickerje : He asked for an apology? All it's ever said to me before was that it's a computer that answers IM's and it gives me a link to its company's website. (
33 Joona : ILS, now, you have been told many times how you can check what display card you have. Are you stupid or why aren't you able to do as you've been told
34 Post contains images Airmale : Im convinced someone did something to my computer a few months back because when I shut it down the message "it is now safe to shut down your computer

36 ILS : I have a Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA).
37 JetService : Get a Mac
38 Post contains images ILS : I got it fixed. Not only did I have to remove the display driver, but also my ethernet driver. Now it is back to normal!
39 Naimas : Do you have anti virus software? How about a firewall?
40 ILS : I do have antivirus and firewall.
41 JonPaulGeoRngo : Jet Service - you and I think alike Oh well, reading how PC people troubleshoot is always amusing.
42 Boeing757fan : Are you in Safe Mode???????
43 Boeing757fan : Now that its fixed I suggest you scan your hard drive and defrag...
