So this girl moved into the apartment upstairs and blasts loud obnoxious music now and then. This IS an apartment building, so I guess I have to take some noise through the wall once in a while. But where should the limit be? It would be one thing if I were hearing Mozart through the wall (which I do hear from the girl down the hall once in a while, she is a violinist), but this is like slash metal or something. She told me that I could tell her whenever it is too loud, but that would be well, too often. That and I'm sure my music gets loud too. Any suggestions?

Buy her a set of cordless headphones. Then mention that you are going to start taking bagpipe lessons and hope you don't disturb her.
Maybe not too subtle.
Happiness is not seeing another trite Ste. Maarten photo all week long.

A friend of mine back in Milwaukee used to practice with his basketball against the ceiling which disturbed the hell out of very loud neighbours upstairs. At least they confronted him and things were sort of "sorted out" (he moved)....

Normally I don't go in for solely male vocals like that, but yeah, that was good! The girl is nice too, shame she more interested in... well yes, watch the video!!
You could try to out do her volume levels Acidradio, but I'm not sure if that's too fair on the person below you and to either side, should there be any. Try just chatting to her, might even make a friendship!

If it really is just "now and then," then just accept it as part of apartment living. I live downstairs from a bass player and have learned to tune him out.
