So with the holiday craze being the new Sony PS3, I was curious who got one, and sold it, or is trying to sell it?
I was really lucky last week down in the bay area. I walked into a game store in downtown Berkeley, and they had ONE they were selling, and I got my hands on it. A 20 GB system for about $540 after sales tax. I put it on Craigs List right away, and today at noon sold it at about a a $310 profit, for $850 bucks..
Has anyone else sold one? How much did you net?
And yes, I know some of you think I'm capitalizing on morons who want to be able to say they have one...And I'm greedy. Oh well. I've got 300 bucks in my pocket because of it!

You probably COULD have made more; the fever is that acute. Sadly, I've too many ethical qualms myself about delving into this sort of profiteering but I've no problems with those who can; get as much as you can from whatever pathetic sucker will pay it. My disdain is cast solely at the fools, including my own nephew, who paid THOUSANDS for this thing today, when in a few months, they'll be able to get it list price or less. What dunderheads! Well, guys, my hat's off to you; keep up the good, er, work!

You really have to be lame if your paying $1000s of dollars for a game box. Go out, take a walk, spot airplanes, etc. Parents go out to buy this stuff for the fat kid who is just going to gain even more weight after he plays it nonstop for 2 months.
Supported the beer and soda can industry, recycle old airplanes!

I agree!!
Quoting GOCAPS16 (Reply 7): I pawned mine! Got about $2 G for it.
Awesome! I wish I could have gotten that much!!!

Possibly...That is IF Sony still had a huge shortage in the US near Christmas...

Oh dude, that's nothing. Try camping overnight just to get a PS3. Or what about Black Friday, try waiting few hours in line at 3am at Best buy and buying a top of the line laptop that cost $2000 for only $1000.

eBay is flooded with them. you'll be lucky to make a few hundred dollars profit.
I feel that way. I didn't have to do shit to make 300 bucks. I put the thing on my Alaska Airlines Visa...So I earned almost 600 miles. I had to spend some time on the internet advertising it for free on Craigs List. A few phone calls, and a few e-mails later, I've pocketed 300 bucks, and paid off my credit card. The only downer was paying sales tax in California.

Quoting S12PPL (Reply 5): Not really, guys. 20 gig systems aren't even going for $900
They WERE going for 2000-3000+ the night before they came out.

Not PS3, but when XBOX 360 came out, my friend and I camped out overnight outside a wal-mart as well as pre-ordering them at a bunch of stores in our area. between the two of us, we had 7 units and sold them all for a nice profit.
If you think profiteering is bad, I'm not even going to mention the last bit of my story.

Which is among the most competitive in the country.
Well, he does list his location as Oregon, which has none at all. So from his perspective paying CA sales tax made the item cost more.

If me or my kids can't play it using either a mouse, a keyboard, or USB-port joystick, we ain't buying it.....I'll even pass up the opportunity to jam some other sucker out of their (in some cases) hard-earned money by buying one on the cheap off the shelf, then unloading it via the internet. I'd rather earn my money the hard way.....repairing MSY Katrina damage with 737's, Airbus's, etc in the background ...

I love people that talk down about people profiting on these things on the net like it's the worst thing we could be doing. I would never pay as much money as I sold the thing for. I'll wait if I ever want something like that, and buy it in six months when it's cheaper. However, If some guy wants to shell out a grand, or $850 even, I'll be glad to pocket the cash.
