So Who Is Your Favourite Football Player?

After the "best goal" thread, I thought why not?

For all you football fans out there, who is your favourite football player of all time, and why?

My favourite: Ryan Giggs

Ever since 1993 or so when I started paying proper attention to football, Giggs has been the player I've looked up to more than anyone else. His speed, acceleration, skills on the ball, crossing and shooting, everything is just brilliant. I've never seen anyone else run as fast with the ball "glued" to his shoes.

And despite being the talented player he is, and has been for nearly two decades now, he has managed to keep both feet on the ground throughout, and kept a fairly low profile.

Another thing is that he has been loyal to his club ever since the start. Even when he was about to develop with Manchester City at the start of his career, he always wanted to play for United. And despite many offers from other clubs over the years, he has stayed loyal to United, and always delivered.

And if any more reasons are needed to explain why I think he's the greatest player ever, then sit back for the next 10 + minutes, and enjoy:

Now if only he could learn to use his right foot too...  Smile

Ryan Giggs

My roomate as well. He adores Giggs. He grew up in Isle of Wight and would travel wherever he had to to see him play.

As for me, my favorite player all time is Zinedine Zidane. In 1998, when he exploded onto the stage in France, I told my friends and family that France was going to win under his leadership. Nobody believed me at first. Then, in 2002, they got embarassed. Again, something I called, thanks to Zidane's movement to Real and all his team members' issues. In 2006 they were expected to do badly, and even had to resort to pulling Zidane out of retirement, along with Thuram. I told my friends and family, France will play badly its first game, but then will go to the Final. If they play Italy they will lose, and if they play Germany they will win. I said this before they even started games in Germany. Again, I was called crazy, but lo and behold, I was right. I think Zidane is an incredible leader on the French team and overall a great guy. Despite the idiotic head-butt, no matter how provoked it was, I still love to watch him play and I still think he's definitely in the top 5 players all time, along with Pele, Maradona, and Ronaldinho. The fifth one is hard to choose, IMHO. After last weekend in the Champions League, maybe Nakamura? haha.

As for me, my favourite has to be Miroslav Klose. I've been amazed about how he plays since the 2002 World Cup and right now, he's back on a roll.

My Favourite player for last few years would be Frank Lampard when he first came to Chelsea and every year he is getting plenty of great goals, setting them up and absolutely owning ass against the opposition......I just hope he doesnt go to Barcelona.

Also another one of my favourites when he played for Chelsea was Gianfranco Zola, scored alot of memorable goals.

Peter Schmeichel is indeed a legend, but he's not the one who scored a goal himself through a header. Jens Lehmann scored a goal just like that. It was in 1997, when he was still playing in the Bundesliga.  Wink
