What would you expect the minimum sentence to be if this happened in the USA?
Also, though body armour is undoubtedly good, don't you think the criminals know where it starts and ends. Surely it's like wearing a 'waistcoat'. If you were shot (ie) in the knee wouldn't you fold like a deck of cards?
I know, what I think this basket should get. But, this is the UK. Out after 10 if he even gets that long.... This is one area where this Country falls flat on it's arse. Time and again. Bloody UK law, what a farcical fiasco.

'Round here, I'd expect nothing less than a charge of Attempted Capital Murder of a Peace Officer. Juries in Harris County are very good at handing down the maximum sentence for the most heinous crimes. A life sentence in Texas will allow the possibility for parole after 40 years.

They very rarely aim. Turds utilize the "spray & pray" technique: pull the trigger as fast as possible and hope to hit something. The torso is the largest target, so one is naturally drawn to it when firing. Therefore, the vest covers center mass. I'd be in favor of a titanium codpiece.

[anecdote]A close friend of mine was wounded when a turd drew a .45 cal and attempted to kill him. My friend was able to deflect the pistol so that he sustained a wound to his hand and bicep. He returned fire and the turd will walk the corridors of prison with a substantial limp and will shit in a baggie for the rest of his days.[/anecdote]
