Haunted House?

I want to start off by saying that I'm not drunk or crazy. I don't really believe in ghosts, spirits, extraterestrial beings or anything of the like, But I'm starting to question some things going on around here.
The wife and I bought an old house a few years ago. It's 50 years old and was all original. We bought the house for a steal because everything needed to be renovated. Inside and out. So we hired a contractor and went to work. The entire house was gutted from the roof down to the basement. Everything was replaced/updated, all new electrical, all new plumbing, all new insulation, all new sheetrock, brand new kitchen and baths. You get the idea.
So here's the problem. Ever since we renovated the house some weird things are happening. Last night after we were all in bed, the TV in the basement turned on all by itself and the volume was turned up full volume. Two nights ago we were all sitting down for dinner when we heard a loud knocking, like someone banging on the front door. My wife got up to see who was there and no one was around. We checked the backdoor, the yard and the driveway. No one to be seen. After the kids were in bed for a few hours the wife and I were watching TV in the LR when we heard a noise in the kitchen. We both went to see what it was and 2 cabinets were opened. Several times we have seen shadows pass through the rooms, and there is an awful lot of strange noises.
I still don't really believe in haunted houses and neither does my wife but it is strange. I can't really explain it.
Anyone experience anything similar? Anyone believe in Ghosts?

all new sheetrock

Did you count the number of contractors both before and after installation of the sheetrock?

Yes, I do believe in ghosts and things, and yes, you have permission to call me crazy if you should so wish.

We get a lot of strange things like that in my house, comes in spits and bursts when for say a week doors will open of their own accord, clocks will change their time all by themselves, things will get moved about and other things will be thrown across the room and broken. Recently a relative passed away, she didn't exactly have a good relationship with one of her sons, but obviously he inherited some of her possessions; to date at least half of them have been destroyed, from little things like picture frames falling to the floor and smashing to the extent where an entire Welsh dresser threw itself and the contents on the floor whilst my aunt and uncle had their backs to it, it was even screwed to the wall in 4 places but somehow managed to pull itself free!

There are some regular things which occur too, every night a particular light switch is pulled in my house, but again I'm used to it so it doesn't bother me. I take the view that if it or they were evil, it would have hurt me or scared me a long time ago.

One time I woke up in the middle of the night and I thought I saw a ghost. I stood still not moving a muscle. Ten minutes later it was still there so I went in front of it to turn on the light and it was actually my flag. In the morning I put the flag in my closet.
Here is what I looked like when I saw it.  Wow!

okay...

Wow! No kidding! Fifty years! Well, no wonder. A place that has been around that long must have some turbulent history.

Hmm, I have a Pendleton shirt that is fifty years old. I wonder if it is haunted?

Me neither but there are two abandoned farm houses over where I grew up that I would not, on a dare, spend a night in. Got stories about both places.

i've heard that remodeling/renovating a house can bring about a ghost. apparently they may not be happy that things have changed.

Well, I've had my share of experiences. But they always happen when I'm alone in my apartment. The biggest thing I notice is that I'll hear sounds like the door is opening or things are falling and I go to see and nothing will have moved.
