DENVER -- Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting early Monday, his limousine sprayed with bullets in downtown Denver.
Team spokesman Jim Saccomano said police called him about 3 a.m. from the scene and told him three people had been shot, and the 24-year-old Williams had been killed. The killing came hours after the Broncos were eliminated from the playoff race.

That is absolutely a tragedy. He was a pretty damn good player, and it's a terrible way for the city of Denver to start the New Year, losing a start player in such a way.
So young, too. Damn.
May his family be comforted, and may he rest in peace.

Wow, thats definitely not what I wanted to hear to start off the new year with. This is pretty much a tragedy for the football world. May his family, team, and fans be consoled

CNN was reporting the limo had some 50+ bullet holes in it...we'll wait and see if the authorities in Colorado hack his investigation up like the other high profile ones of past.

A tragedy for this young mans family. I hope he rests in peace, and that they catch the murderers.

Don't confude the Denver cops with the bumbling idiots in the Boulder PD. The Ramsey murder was the first (and only) murder in Boulder that year. I'm sure Homicide wasn't the primary duty of the folks investigating that crime.
The last report I saw said police have no motive but I have an idea that somebody mouthed off to somebody and the one with hurt feelings thought doing a drive by would be the best resolution. A complete shame.

I'm in Denver now, and I went to the game against the 49ers yesterday.
I have to tell you, that we are all in shock here. It's just so senseless.
Losing the game yesterday put a damper on our New Year celebrations last night, but to wake up to this news is really too much. My condolences to the Williams family, and to the team.
Champ Bailey was one of the first to get the news and he rushed to the hospital about 3:00am here. And now local news is reporting that WR Javon Walker was in the limo with Williams, but he is ok. RB Tatum Bell was a team mate of Williams at Oklahoma State and close friend. He was interviewed this morning on ESPN. It was really sad.

I wonder if somebody lost money on the team this year.
Seriously, if somebody lost money on the Bronco's this year and blamed him for it, I could easily see this not being a random act.

Problem though (that you and I both know) is that even with guns illegal, the criminals would still have them. So moot point from the anti-gun group.

It's been reported that Williams was at a night club when an altercation broke out. He and his friends thought it best to leave the club to avoid any problems. The other party involved in the altercation left the club too, followed Williams limo, pulled up on the side and opened fire, killing Williams.

Real class act. Try harder to resist being so self serving next time, and let people grieve. Some things are better left unsaid.

Ok guys, take the gun/anti-gun stuff to another thread before this one gets ugly and deleted.
For a small bit of humor in this otherwise bad event I suppose the cops can rule Ray Lewis out as a suspect since he was in Baltimore playing a game there.

RIP Darrent Williams, and condolensces to his family, friends, and the Broncos organization.
According to the Denver Post (unable to link article from my BlackBerry), Williams was co-hosting a combination New Years Eve/Kenyon Martin birthday party. K-Mart says he left the party before midnight, one reason being to avoid any possible altercations.....makes me wonder if something was already brewing...
Another senseless example of "nothing good happens at 2am".

Well, as the review page says before you make your post, "Take the high road". No one had brought it up, so there was no point to bring this up. And should this thread get out of hand on the gun/anti-gun issue, there is a "Suggest Deletion" tab to click. You are correct that there are those who will derail threads with nonsense and rhetoric. No need for you to become one of them.
