Hi guys It would be really appreciated if you could help me.

On the XP Display Panel I have for some reason lost my tabs, by tabs I mean screen saver, appearance, settings etc etc. I still have the themes bit although there's a blank space where the tabs should be

This means that I cannot adjust any display settings which I need!

See what I mean?

Thanks Guys

I'm not sure... With XP you can just re-set the computer to an earlier date...just do that.

That icon there on your desktop, WinCleaner Memory....

What exactly is it? Does it have to deal with your registry by any chance? A lot of times freeware registry cleaners can do really bizarre things to a computer. This is all of course just a small idea based off of an icon.

Your best bet though is to run System Restore to the most recent date in which you know your computer was working fine.

Before you do any system restores, I'd remove that WinCleaner Memory program first, then run a full virus and spyware scan and clean and remove anything you find (viruses have been known to infect System Restore files). If your tabs return, you've found the culprit. If they do not, then you need to check your registry.

There are several registry entries that affect the tabs in the Display Control Panel applet. Before making any changes to the registry, make sure to back it up first! The entries listed below may not appear in your registry, so you'll need to create them if you still can't see the tabs after running a full virus and spyware scan and removing anything nefarious. If the entries do exist, make sure the DWORD values are set to zero (Hexadecimal)

[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem]
"NoDispAppearancePage"=dword:00000000
"NoDispBackgroundPage"=dword:00000000
"NoDispSettingsPage"=dword:00000000
"NoDispScrSavPage"=dword:00000000

the following link is valid for xp as well as nt

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/arc...as/maintain/profiles.mspx?mfr=true

The Control Panel—Restrict Display Option

This setting, shown in Figure 13.10, removes or enables tabs in the Control Panel Display applet by setting the following values under the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER _Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Policies System] key.

NoDispCPL 0 or 1

REG_DWORD

When this value is set to 1 or the Deny access to display icon box is checked (see Figure 13.10), the Display applet of the Control Panel does not display. If set to 0 or the box is cleared, the applet is displayed.

NoDispBackgroundPage 0 or 1

REG_DWORD

When this value is set to 1 or the Hide Background tab box is checked (see Figure 13.10), the Background tab on the Display applet does not display. If set to 0 or the box is cleared, the tab is displayed.

NoDispScrSavPage 0 or 1

REG_DWORD

When this value is set to 1 or the Hide Screen Saver tab box is checked (see Figure 13.10), the Screen Saver tab on the Display applet does not display. If set to 0 or the box is cleared, the tab is displayed.

NoDispAppearancePage 0 or 1

REG_DWORD

When this value is set to 1 or the Hide Appearance tab box is checked (see Figure 13.10), the Screen Saver tab on the Display applet does not display. If set to 0 or the box is cleared, the tab is displayed.

NoDispSettingsPage 0 or 1

REG_DWORD

When this value is set or the Hide Settings tab box is checked (see Figure 13.10), the Screen Saver tab on the Display applet does not display. If set to 0 or the box is cleared, the tab is displayed.

Edit: Sorry 2112 beat me to it  Wink
