To The Airliners . Net Community -
You are all cordinally invited to attend "The Second Great Birmingham Shoot Out 2007."
Strong tentative dates for this year's meet are October 26, 27, and 28.
Details and cost ideas are as follows.
Those involved in organizing and participating in "The First Great Birmingham Shoot Out" in 2006 have all agreed to meet again this year and to extend the invittation to the rest of the A.Net community.
During the weekend of November 3, 4, and 5, 2006, approximately 12 members of the website and their guests traveled nearly 23,500 miles from 8 states into Birmingham to attend the event.
Unlike most A.Net meet events, the main event is not a spotting trip to the airport to watch airplanes. Instead, the event mainly focuses around a trip to a gunnery range that went way out of their way to be accomodating to the group in 2006. The trip to the range will take place on that Saturday roughly from 11am until about 4pm in the afternoon.
If you are a die hard fire arms owner, you will enjoy yourself. If you are not, you will still most likely enjoy yourself. They aren't here to turn you into a gun nut, they just want a chance to enjoy their hobby and share it at the same time.
While your enjoyment is important, SAFETY is the number one priority for the entire weekend.
There is still plenty of time and opportunities at the range to be social and meet new friends. Drinks and snacks will be made available.
However, the traditional dinner/social sessions of most A.Net meets will still take place. Nothing will be confirmed until the first of October but in 2006, that Friday night was a meet 'n greet near the airport for everyone as they arrived in Birmingham. Saturday morning was a breakfast gathering followed by the shoot out, and then a few hours after the conclusion of the shoot out, everyone met downtown for dinner at what many of the attendees called "a very very fantastic restaurant." Drinks and cocktails followed as the A.Net community went and made its stamp in one of Birmingham's more affluent neighborhoods. Sunday was a "option day" with everyone departing Birmingham per their convenience.
We realize that sometimes costs plays a part in the decision of whether or not people are able to attend the meets.
The trip costs about as much as you make it cost.
A rough idea from 2006 *MINUS* airfare -
Friday Night Meet 'n Greet - $20 - $25
Saturday Night Dinner - $50
Shoot Out - depends on what your needs are. The situation on whether or not attendees are willing to share their fire arms with you depends solely on them and the situation, but for a good full afternoon of shooting, a $100 in ammo is a safe bet.
Accomodations - $50 to however much you wish to spend per night.
Transportation - depends on what you make it. you can pay for your own rental car or fork up some gas money and arrange to share transportation options with others once you are there.
Keep in mind you can bow out of any event or activity at your own discretion.
There are bound to be more posts on this throughout the year. But we encourage and invite everyone who might be interested to mark their calendars now and to let us know what your plans, ideas, and thoughts are.

Well crap. I sold my USP .40 to my buddy the other day, as I just don't have a place to store it anymore, haven't used it it in over a year, and my mother just negated the 2nd ammendment in my folks' house. Sigh...
