I got the strangest call tonight. The U.S. Army, or at least someone supposedly representing them called and asked if I had thought about rejoining the Army. At first I thought they had some how mistaken me for my daughter or were asking my permission to allow her to join since she is a HS senior, National Honor Student, they have have been after her every day for the past year. But no she said she wanted to talk to me, James, about rejoining the Army. I asked her if she had any idea of how old I was and she hit the nail on the head, she also had my entire military record, awards, schools, assignments, all right in front of her because she read them off and didn't miss a beat. Even the dates were correct. So when I told her I'd be to easy of a target....Abdul you get the old fat slow one in the rear....she explained that they weren't looking to use me overseas but stateside as a trainer. Has anyone else gotten a call like this? Are they actually looking for people like that? Seems awfully strange to me, that after 30 years they'd need me. If it is true, what's the pay like? Is it same as what the soldiers are getting or a different pay grade? Are you actually in the Army or just a civilian contractor able to leave when you want too? Got to tell you I was pretty shocked. They must be down to the last pile before they start contacting people who are still incarcerated somewhere. I've always said if they really need me I'd do my part but it just seems strange is all. Was it a hoax?

Quoting ANCFlyer (Reply 4): And I disagree, they're not down to the last POS - they haven't called me yet.
Hell, they'll call you before me.

Quoting ANCFlyer (Reply 4): Seriously, why wouldn't they want to old gits like you or I
I think you're safe, she said as long as I hadn't retired, which I didn't, I was good to go.
Quoting FlyingTexan (Reply 6): So is she going to call you back? Are they going to send "recruiters" your way?
She didn't say, she just said it was something I should think about and left it at that. No call back number so I don't know if it was a one time offer or not. That's one of the things that made me suspect a hoax. But she had everything I'd done in the military right there at her fingertips I'm convinced of that.
