Daily Road Traffic - What Annoys You Most?

Hi all,

Last Friday I experienced a hell of a ride from Bochum to Soest, after 20 minutes I was really thinking that 80% of the German drivers are complete idiots.

My top 3 list:

1. It seems to be a trend to change lanes or to turn in another road while leaving the turn-signal lever untouched.

On Sunday I had my mother's Peugeot at 190 kph on the left lane until some retard in his Merc C-Class decided to switch from the right to the left lane 15 meters in front of me without using the friggin' turn-signal a second before. No question, a full brake application was in order... and it took a while until I had a 110hp car back to 190kph.  grumpy

2. Some people seem to have no idea what an acceleration lane is.

On Friday I had some moron in front of me who used only 10 meters of the acceleration lane and turned into the Autobahn with a speed of approx. 60 kph. Even a truck had to brake because of this brainless action!

3. Driving on the middle lane while the right lane is empty.

Yes, there are way too many people in slow cars who drive on the middle lane of a 3-lane Autobahn. Why don't they simply switch to the right lane? Then I would not need to change from the middle lane to the left lane to pass them.

These things are driving me nuts, really!  Angry

What are your top road traffic nuisances? Are drivers in other countries similar retared like most of the German drivers?

Patrick

Braindead drivers who park on the tram track - hey, you're only holding up a hundred people because you're at the ATM "just for a second"! Likewise, I'm not particularly fond of drivers who enter an intersection when they can see they'll be blocking other cars and the tram because they can't get out of their ways.

Oh, and then we have the fools who, waiting at a red light, notice an ambulance approaching from behind and do - NOTHING! Unless that ambulance has some serious commonality with the batmobile, they're going to be right on top of Santa's "you've been bad" list next Christmas... sometimes I wonder if there's some sort of wall that pops out of the ground in front of them as soon as the light turns red.

There are driving retards in every country, we have our fair share in England.

3 things that annoy me:

1) Not indicating when changing lanes, how are other drivers supposed to know their intentions? How hard is it to flick the indicator?

2) Impatience. Drivers who pull out of junctions right in front of you, while you slam on the brakes.

3) Drivers who think they own the road because they drive a massive Range Rover or Lexus. Weaving across lanes, taking up two lanes, cutting people up, and last but not least, failing to acknowlege or appreciate the fact that you gave them way.

No kiddin' . . . .

Neither have you Yukoners!! I assure you . . . Alaska's drivers are as brain-damaged as the next ones . . .

What really chaps my ass - at night: Approaching an oncoming vehicle that "forgets" to drop their high beam driving lights. Now, I don't know about Europeans, or some other states here in the US, but in Alaska - and in Canada - the OE high beams simply aren't enough . . . they don't 'see' far enough.

On my personal vehicle I have a set of KC Daylighters, wired right in with my OE high beams. I can light up the world with those.

On my squad, I have two sets, one on the bumper and one on light bar. I can see forever.

Other drivers have similar arrangments.

When they forget to turn down the high beams, it's like staring into the sun!

Yup! In Germany, if the light turns green and you don't start moving within under 1 second, the 5 cars behind you are on their horns.

Just a few more to add onto the list:

1. People who drive the speedlimit (or less), approach an intersection, slow down to about 20 or 30km/h then when the light turns yellow, they step on the gas leaving everyone else at the redlight.

2. People who make a left or right turn into a 2 lane street. If you make a left turn, you turn into the left lane, if you make a right turn, you turn into the right lane. However, around here, most people think that they are driving a big 2 trailer truck and think that they need to turn into the far lane otherwise they won't make it.

3. As a bus driver, people who don't yield to you (as the law says the are supposed to) when you turn back into traffic.

4. You're the only car on the road/highway, another car comes up on a side street (about 5kms down the road) and want's to turn onto your road. They sit there until you are about 100m from them, then they decide to turn in front of you.

5. See number 4 and add .... after they cut you off, they turn off at the next available road.

6. MOBILE PHONE TALKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. stupid F's who get in the left lane and drive at or below the speed limit.

2. Careless drivers who tailgate or change lanes without looking and then cause accidents and massive traffic tie ups.

3. Sh**heads that block intersections which just causes more congestion.

As a cyclist, I find a huge number of motorists to be anti-social menaces. What peeves me most is:

Indecisiveness - People who wait at a junction but slowly edge out as I approach as they are too short-sighted to work out how quickly I am coming. I slow down to let them pass, then the motorist stops in the middle of the road to let me pass, and then starts moving forward again after I attempt to go past. Just move, FFS!

Groups of girls crossing the road - It's inevitably girls who squeel as they dodge past traffic to reach the middle of the road, then run (unintentionally) in my direction because girls, like throwing, simply cannot run properly.

Bus drivers - They pull into their next stop, regardless of whether a cyclist is frantically pedalling out of the bus' path. They then pull out of their stop without a care in the world and causing a cyclist to swerve into the opposite lane is all in a day's work.

Jealous car drivers - If my bike can squeeze up the inside whilst you're stuck at the traffic lights (but not jump the lights, which is terribly anti-social), then tough bananas! That's the price you pay for congesting the streets with your non-slimline vehicle.

People who open their door without checking oncoming traffic - Boof! You've planted me on my arse, dented your door and shattered your window. Nice one!

UK motorists need a regular health check. I think that driving tests should be much more intense as there are too many incompetent drivers who are a danger not only too cyclists, but other drivers. They have clearly fluked their driving test or offered other services to the examiner. I also think that every 5 years or so, drivers should all undergo routine re-fresher tests to ensure their roadworthiness.

checkmark  This really grates me! Am I psychic? Am I supposed to be able to read your mind and know where you are going?

Under the same point comes those who are too lazy to check their blindspots when changing lanes in traffic.

Quoting Sabena332 (Thread starter):
3. Driving on the middle lane while the right lane is empty.

This is the aboslute worst offence that US drivers commit. A number of people claim there is no such rule yet on all the interstates around Richmond there are signs worded along the lines of, 'Slower traffic please move to right hand lane'. Does anyone observe it? No.  Angry

Other things that grate me:
-People driving large SUVs (Tahoes, Suburbans, H2s etc) that drive like they own the road.
-Those who decide drive time is chat time. Keep your eyes on the damn road!
-People who drive and constantly change lanes in heavy traffic whilst driving at about 20mph more than any other vehicle.
-People who ride on your ass so close you cannot see their headlights expecting you to move over immediately in heavy traffic. Yes, I am trying to get out of your way just give me more than 4.1secs to execute the manouevre!

Here in OK people are horrible drivers when it's sunny out. Doing everything already said.
Cutting you off
Turn signal annoyances / lack of use
Cell Phones
ect, ect, ect.

When it rains here people are even worse drivers

When it snows here people just give up and drive toward poles and crash I think.

When it's icy everyone wants to do 50 mph. And try to, and go sliding off the roads. Like they can't feel when they have no traction.

Number 1: People driving slow in the left lane on highways. I just hate it, I dont like passing on the right but it is just something I always end up doing. Even after flashing the person a few times with my lights, half the people dont move they just stay there in the left lane going 55mph while everyone eles is going 70mph.

Number 2. People who dont use turn signals. I hate it especially when they are coming off a main road to a drive way or something like that, all of sudden the car just stops in the middle of the road to turn, why not use your signal?!

And than there is just the horrible drivers.

The drivers in Monterrey, Mexico are the worst in the world; you have no idea!

1) In most of Mexico, but especially in Monterrey using your signal to change lane is a signal to the drivers on the other lane to not let you into the lane.

2) Monterrey has the highest index of accidents, mostly because people drive with such pride that if a car get in there way they won't brake as it is the other cars fault.

3) People changing lanes just clearing cars by 50 cm, passing you on the right.

4) People not knowing what a fast lane is, and not moving to the right when the could easily do this, hence creating chaos with cars passing on the left.

5) On a two lane road two cars going at the same speed and not letting anyone through.

6) At intersections people the cars on the minor road going halfway into the mayor road and then looking for traffic.

I think it's pretty much illegal everywhere, it's just not enforced for the most part . Here's a few others that need to be enforced.

1. Lane changes and turns are separate actions - don't combine them as it f*cks everybody else up
2. Turn signals are there for a reason - use them!
3. If you don't know how to accelerate to merge - don't get on the Interstate!
4. Don't high beam me!
5. If you're driving any sort of dump truck - put the damn tarp on - even if you're "empty".
6. Properly flag wide loads.
7. Don't wreck your car - it's impolite to delay me in this way
8. If you violate 7, get the f*cking car off the road if possible
9. In the case of another person violating rule 7, don't slow down to 10 mph to look at the idiot(s). Drive by at a safe speed with your eyes looking forward. Violation of this rule has been known to cause violations of rule 7!
10. Learn how to park, please!
11. I don't want to know what you're listening to on the radio.
12. If you don't know where you're going, at least act like you do.
13. I pulled over to let the ambulance/fire truck/police car pass me. I didn't do it so you could pass me.
14. Strap your kids in! If you can't keep a kid in a seat belt then you obviously don't have the discipline to drive a car.
15. If you can't see 50 ft in front of you then you need to slow down.

etc., etc.

Idiots who brake when the lights go orange and their clearly able to go through intersection safely before red comes up.

One that's been missed is people who have their high intensity rear fog lights on, especially when it's not foggy. Why?? They are blinding if you're behind one of these people.

People who slow down on the motorway to let others enter when it would be better to keep going. I saw one situation where both the person on the motorway and the person on the sliproad kept slowing and the person on the motorway was rear ended.

People who drive too fast onto blind sliproads (exit the motorway and go down a slope where you can't see what's ahead.) There's one next to the Tesco's supermarket in stockport that I always worry about. One time I left the motorway going about 60mph. Someone behind me must have been going at 80mph on a wet day, jammed on the brakes when he saw the cars ahead, skidded, was still going at a fair speed when he rammed a car waiting at the lights at the bottom of the hill and hit this car so hard it banged the car in front.

This is easily my biggest beef with the driving public. It's not fucking hard to move your left hand that six inches to move the turn signal, just do it. It's particularly annoying when you're waiting to pull out of a parking lot and some douchebag you assume was going to pass in front of you turns into your lot at the last second without signaling. Now wonder I ride the bus whenever possible...
