As far as I know, the first images released from the accident:

The accident will be shown on January 28th on BBC2 from what I gather from the article at www.dagbladet.no (norwegian).

Looks like a very nasty spill. I hope he made it through it okay.

I understand there was some rehabilitation needed, but he recovered remarkably well from what I've heard.

The crash happened during a speed record attempt last year. I myself can't remember reading what caused the accident, but looking at the first picture, I'd guess it was a blown tyre.

Best wishes on his recovery. It must take a lot to do the kind of thing he does.  Smile

It appears as though the exaust is rather hot coming from the first images. Based upon that, and the fact that dust is being kicked up indicates that this vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed.

Based on the color of the car in the following image, I'm going to have to assume that this is the same car that was posted in the first photo. This photo was likely taken after the first, as the sequence of images seem to indicate.

In the second photo, there appears to be some sort of black dot in the sky. There is also a tire that appears to be moving at a very high rate of speed in the same relative direction as the car. Although I cannot prove this, it is my hypothesis that the wheel may have been attached to the vehicle at one point in time -- previously to the taking of the second photograph.

The odd angle of the car, and its position relative to the foreground incidcates to me that this car was not moving in an entirely linear fashion. Based upon the debrid trail, I would have to conclude that this vehicle was actually in some sort of spin. This theory is further supported by the pattern of smoke which helps to indicate the direction of wind behind the spinning vehicle.

No. You're wrong. The first picture happened after the second one. The thread starter just got them around the wrong way.

The fillm etc will be shown on the first episode of the new series of Top Gear on BBC 2 on the 28th Jan 07, at 8pm or 9pm.

There is also an exclusive interview and pictures in the Top Gear magazine, I have brought it, but not looked at it yet.

Tom.
