Hello all, hopefully someone will be able to help. I will be arriving DUS on the 30th at around 14.30, my train connection leaves the airport train station at 15.50. Is that enough time? SABRE says that a 3hr minimum connect time is required from international arrival (LH from LHR) to rail. I know the 1hr 20 is tight, but 3 hrs????

3 hours seems a very long time. I don't know the layout of DUS very well, but I'd estimate about half an hour to clear immigration and customs, and then however long it takes you to get to the train station (can't be that long, can it?).

I'd say you have enough time.

There are two stations at DUS, the underground station is inside the terminal and the mainline station is outside on the eastern side. I'm not sure how far away it is but it can't be further from the terminal than the station at FRA, and I have made it from international gate to train there in under an hour so you should be okay.

One hour and twenty minutes are more than enough! When you are on the arrival level you must simply follow the "SkyTrain" signs, an escalator will bring you to the station, the thing is usually running every 3 or 4 minutes between the terminal and the long-distance train station (there are shuttle busses when the SkyTrain is out of order). It will take approx. 7 minutes to get there.

Your 1hr 20mins. should be more then enough, as Patrick pointed out in reply 3. Once you get off your LH flight in DUS (Pier A), you just need to go through passport control and collect your luggage. Once you're in the Arrivals Hall, just follow the signs to the Skytrain/DB Rail Station (there is an escalator/elevator that takes you up to it). If the Skytrain is not working, just follow the signs to the Bus Shuttle outside of the Arrivals Hall.

Once you arrive at the train station, there is a DB service counter and lots of information signs displaying arriving and departing trains to help you out. If you have extra time, the train station has a small cafe and a great observation deck both inside and out, defienetly worth the 2€ admission.

By the way, where are you taking the train to? If you are just going to Dusseldorf, there is also the option of taking the S-Bahn underneath the terminal itself.

He is going to Essen which means there is a train about every 10 min if bahn.de is to be believed!

There are constant trains going through Essen from DUS. Another tip, don't take the S-Bahn, they stop at every station between the way, go for a RE, it'll only stop in Duisburg and Mulheim (my home town  Big grin ) and Essen.

I'm assuming you have your train ticket already? Even if you do, don't worry about you missing your train, just hop onto a later train or go to the DB Service Point and they will change your ticket or most likely just tell you to take another train.

As Andz said, there are trains leaving towards Essen at least every 10 mins.

Also, unless you have a ticket for the ICE, IC or EC, do not board one of them as you need an extra "zuschlag" or fee for them. Stick to the RE or S-Bahn.

If you do take the RE, Essen will be the thrid stop from DUS.
