I've never used Train Simulator but I'd thought about getting it since I enjoy Flight Simulator. Now I have a new reason to try it!

http://www.microsoft.com/games/trainsimulator/

"Redmond, WA, January 19, 2007 – Following the successful release of Microsoft Flight Simulator X, the Aces Studio is using the same technology to develop a new version of Microsoft Train Simulator. Unrelated to our previous Train Simulator development efforts, this version will be an all-new product built on the Flight Simulator X platform, the culmination of 25 years of product development and technology.

It’s too early to discuss the details of this product, but we look forward to sharing more information later this year."

I know there are others here that enjoy the old version of Train Simulator so I thought I would bring this to everyone's attention (especially JamieD).

Train simulator seems amazing. I hope that they produce a bus simulator as well. Being a bus enthusiast, I think it would be great to drive various routes in different buses from around the world.

Matt

I confess I have MTS and, whether I like it or not, will probably end up getting this new one. The big problem is that so few routes are simulated. It's not like FS, where routes are unrestricted and only the airports have to be simulated in detail.

I have train simulator! Its pretty awesome, can get boring at times, but great scenery (even animals on the tracks sometimes). But otherwise, great game! You can also download trains like planes for FS.

Cant wait to see pics of the new Train Simulator!

UK Transim have a lot of free routes and extra trains (www.uktrainsim.com).

They were supposed to be doing an MSTS2 and the year before last canned the project leaving Kuju? to develop it themselves and so far their train sim is looking great.

I never got train simulator, but I was really interested in it, particularly when Aerosoft released the Berlin U-Bahn package for it.

I might have to spring for it this time.

Yes but it's still only a fraction of what really exists. If you want to go from A to B, you need the whole route, not just bits of it and that can take a few years to appear. For example, last time I checked, the West Coast Main Line didn't exist, so you couldn't do Glasgow-London, and that was some time after MTS came out.

Admittedly it's been a while since I checked - I guess I should have a look.

I gave up doing that in GTA3, then again its been so long since a new fresh GTA I've given up completly for now.

RE Bus Sim, there is one its freeware designed by a Polish chap I believe. The graphics are almost none existant (aside from the detail of the vehicles) - a link can be found on the UKTS website forums - which actually have a fair number of bus sim threads.

Quoting David L (Reply 8):

There is an ECML and as far as the WCML goes there is one from Manchester-Liverpool to London. I think it was called London-Mersey or something similar - it comes in something like 16 download parts due to the enormous area - a few extra lines are avaliable also. On the manchester end there is nothing north of Picc however the access to the WCML can be from either Stockport or via the airport way (although the airport extension after heald green is currently not in there).

North west england is a good one too, with the whole GM area (north of picadilly & west of victoria) with the lines going as far as Preston, Limestreet & southport.

Both of those routes are really good fun if you have the right trains.

I'm sure you're right but I'd like a WCML and there doesn't seem to be one. My general point is that you're restricted to the routes that have been made available. I'm not complaining about the lack of routes, as it's a completely different ball game from FS, but it is a bit restricting.

I got a payware add-on for a couple of Swiss routes (excellent quality) that sparked my interest again but there were so many other routes I wanted to do but couldn't.

I should take look at what's available now. It looks like I'll have to pay UK Trainsim, even though I don't know if I want what they've got without downloading some ReadMe files... and downloading them is a chore otherwise - Catch 22.  Smile

Sure well normally I wouldn't spend over £60 - midweek, well after this mornings hangover I think I am going to severly curb my drinking - getting completley sloshed (and then selling burgers on the bus ride home) is not fun anymore I'd rather drink slowly and have a conversation.

Of course, drinking fast means you get pd faster which means you may have a chance to summon the courage to speak to that girl over there..... an evil cycle  Wink

You can browse for free last time I was there, it once was possible to download for free but they changed the system over. Joining the forums is free too & you can see many good screenshots & previews there.
