Well lets talk some real American Football. Not that sissy bounce ball on head european stuff.
What is wrong with my Seahawks?
Well it seems that Mike Holmgren has decided to restart Ricky Watters in place of Shaun Alexander. Watters has been on the injured list for the past few weeks. Alexander has been extremely effective playing including the fourth largest NFL largest total in a game and setting a team record for the longest touchdown run.
Not that I am saying that Watters is a bad player but word is that his contract isn't going to be renewed next season anyway. So why play him at all when Alexander is doing so well.
This is on top of the Holmgren decision to play his pretty boy Matt Hasselbeck as quaterback in place of the much more proficent and experienced Trent Dilfer. The only reason is that Holmgren is stuck in some sort of face saving, "he will grow into the job" attitude because of Hasselbecks lackluster perfromance.
I remember the days when Tom Flores was coaching so I can say that I have already been to hell and have no desire to return. But I can't help but come to the conclusion that if Mike Holmgren had run a Dilfer/Alexander combination at the start of the season the Seahawks would have a better record then 6-6 at this point in the season.

Holmgren has serious issues. He should have been starting Dilfer earlier in the season, and now Ricky Waters is starting over a guy having a great season including a 200 plus yard game. They outta give the coach a pss test too.

Packers Suck!!!
You want to talk about a town divided....
I was in Grand Forks North Dakota during the 96 season. Half the town where Vikings fans the other half where Packers fans. When those two teams played each other........
There was more....er....comradery on the 58th Parallel then there was in that town!

It was huge mistake for Holmgren to leave GB. He had a bona fide Hall of Famer starting at quarterback, a good nucleus, and the adoration of the entire state. Instead, he left for a town where he's not even the highest-profile coach in his own city! I know he wanted to be a head coach/GM, but if he would have stayed two more years, that's exactly what he would have been.
Plus, it seems like he's letting his ego get in the way of his personnel decisions these days. He needs to suck it up and admit that he screwed up on the Hasselbeck decision and do what's best for the team. Until he swallows his pride and starts making the right decisions, he's not going to be a winner. After the Pack, I'm a big Seahawks fan, and I hope he can get this thing turned around.

p.s. The 58th Parallel is the line that divides North and South Korea, right?

Thanks Mcringring. Thats what I was getting at. I spent a year on the 38th parallel, but I didn't want to pipe in and come off ignorant if the 58th parallel actually was something important.

I wonder if Holmgren's bigger problem is the joint coach/GM responsbilities. These big time coaches think they can do it all, but only a handful succeed in both positions. BTW, it's great to have a discussion with real men about a real sport, unlike the goofy soccer they play in the UK ( a country of high scorers on "the test").

LMAO @ Stretch!
Some coaches can do the Coach/GM thing and be good. Dude in Green Bay now is doing a good job with both responsibilities. Then like you said, some coaches think they can do it, and when they can't, they keep trying and trying, and all they end up doing is keep screwing up the team. If you can do it, more power to you. If you try and can't do it. No problem, its a tough job. Just give up the GM slot, and concentrate on the team. The Seahawks had alot of potential, and I feel Holmgren jacked this team up this year.

Bad coaching? Don't get me started about my Bears. If we had an offensive coordinator that could actually call orginal plays we could have beaten the Pack last weekend. I mean christ, we held Green Bay to 17 points, started at an average of our own 39, but were only able to get into the endzone once?
How do they expect to win, when on 3rd and 16 they run a short pass to the tight end behind the line of scrimmage with no blockers in sight?! Or on 3rn and 11 running it straight up the middle?!
My little sister could call better plays than they did on Sunday... Oh well, second place in the NFC central still isn't too bad after last season.

The Bears? Give me a break, they barely got by my 0-12 Lions the last time they played. No team in the NFC central (or the NFC, for that matter) is very strong this year. "Any given Sunday. . ."

Stretch 8,
Your Lions are the best team with an 0-12 record in football, I'll freely admit it. They are not playing 0-12 ball, by all rights they should be 7-5 or 8-4 the way they've been playing, they just let it slip away at the end. BTW, I believe you also took the Pack right down to the wire.
