I'd like to see more screenshots from actual users of Vista, not just those few generic screenshots that Microsoft coughed up from Vista. I'd like to see more of those new features.

I like the subtle changes that they have made to vista over Xp, such as the start bar. The colourscheme is alot better on the eyes as well  Smile

The Windows Start and Windows Exit sounds are quite soothing.

I prefer the colours in vista to those of XP. The colour scheme in Vista looks more professional and less bright and garish like XP did.

One thing that annoyed me when I first installed it was that User Access Control asking me to continue every 30 seconds. Once I found out how to turn that off I was alright. Also some of my programs did not work under Vista as they were too old (Roxio Easy CD Creator 6 and Adobe Acrobat 6).

Since my motherboard has on board video, FSX runs like a bucket of shit. I hope to get a new video card next week.

Yay! There goes Vista's "enhanced security"!

I don't have Vista, but I tried it on a demo computer at a local office supply store. To be honest, I think Vista has been over-hyped, it didn't seem any nicer than XP.

By the way, you can get an "Aero-glass" like look for XP, for a fraction of the cost.

As I said elsewhere, I don't insult the poor Windows sufferers, I insult those who caused the suffering...!

And as annoying as the overly frequent prompts in Vista may be, simply switching them off (or blindly confirming them every single one) removes a protection barrier from the system which should really be considered with great caution.

Of course, there are better alternatives.

My mother, who is very paranoid of the internet, has the Norton Firewall on her PC turned up to the max. How the hell can you use a machine that asks you "block" or "permit" for everything you do on the internet?

It's not necessary either...

Actually, as long as you're not paranoid, you can safely run a PC without any of this authorization crap. I hate Norton and all this nonsense.

Use the XP firewall, have a quiet and peaceful virus scanner installed which only peeps up if there's REALLY something wrong, keep your computer updated..... and that's all you need. No hassle at all.

Like an iceberg, there is alot more to UAC than meets the eye.

Sure. But if you blindly enable every security-relevant access attempt (which an excessive amount of popup alerts tempts the user to do), most of the presumable gains are immediately lost again.

I agree that it can be a problem. I have played around with vista in PCworld and it is alot less obtrusive than it is made out to be. Anything that slows down the user can be seen as obtrusive.

Matt

P.S Klaus as this thread is about the good points of vista and judging by your previous post, you have clearly used it. What do you like about it?  laughing   mischievous

Well, from the land of the bloggerati, 'proof' that Klaus is wrong, yet again.

I have been using Microsoft's new operating system, Windows Vista, for months at work. It has a stunning GUI that is better than the latest Mac OS, and so far it has been rock-solid. No crashes at all. It's pretty near flawless. When the consumer version is released in a few months, I urge you to run, not walk, to your nearest retailer and buy a copy. Windows Vista is that good.

Better luck next OS.  sarcastic

Wait - is it one of those bloggers, whose "impartiality" has been "enhanced" by a free vista laptop courtesy of Microsoft?  eyebrow

The actual press is quite a bit less thrilled, even though many of them have substantial Microsoft ad campaigns running in their publications.

Wait a minute, this guy contradicts himself. In the post you quote, WellHung, he says he's been using it at work for months. Yet in the following post, he appears to be new to it:

http://louminatti.blogspot.com/2007/...cond-thoughts-about-microsoft.html

Check out the dates of the two blogs.

So which is it?

Well, after having to wait for almost a month or so, I finally got Vista. I'm running on Vista Business and apart from some teething problems, and a few unexplainable BSoDs at first, it's all running smooth now, plus the startup is faster than with Windows XP SP2. If I get around to it, I will install FS and see how it performs.
