Anyone see the opening for the Grammys? He couldn't hit the high notes he was known for it seems! Anyone else notice that?

I didn't realise sting knew how to sing in the first place.

That wasn't one of favorite Polce songs. I wouldl have loved to hear Invisibe Sun , Rehumanize Yourself or Synchronicity (not the happy one). I will go see them if they go on tour though.

I wouldn't go see them on tour sounding like that.

I didn't see it, but the guy is like 55 years old or so. I wouldn't really expect him to hit the same notes in the same way anymore.

How'd the band sound otherwise?

When most people get too old to do their job, they either retire or do something else. Just a thought. He's got a great history, and I think continuing will only take his legacy down.

Quite boring, honestly. I was left longing for the past.

I always thought he sounded like a man singing with a hole in his neck. Either that or he's a four pack-a-day smoker.

Perhaps. But as long as he's still filling up seats or selling albums (aka making money), then he's still doing his job.

I never liked Sting's voice on songs like "Roxanne" and some of that other Police stuff. Sounded like he was straining, and had some weird accent.

I love his singing, however, on "Fields of Gold" from the late 90's or whenever that was released.

He sounded AND looked great.

In fact, he looked smoking hot. I'd hit it.

As would most women and gay men.

He couldn't even sing the chorus! How did he sound "great?"

***

That is how they have always performed Roxanne, so the chorus was as normal as far as he was concerned.

NO. The chorus was always the highest part of the song. "Put on a red light" was at times a half or whole octave lower in tonight's performance.

I know music. This wasn't a good performance.

As Sting has matured, he has altered his style to match the profile changes his voice has taken in 30 years of singing. Perhaps he can't hit as many high notes on old Police songs but his voice still sounds great on his newer stuff and was never exactly conventional and even anyway.

Then he shouldn't sing his old stuff if he's going to stink it up now.

I used to know a Wisconsin state trooper named Roxanne. She was so sick of friends and coworkers telling her not to put on the red light. Seriously.
