IF it doesn't rain, the race will kick off this afternoon (Eastern Time US) and gues who is the favored victor . . .

 bigthumbsup

Should be a great race . . . .

Wonder if there will be any more "rule infractions" discovered? You'd think after the smoking five teams took this last week, even considering a small cheat would be grounds for execution. (Ok, not literally for the anti-death penalty nuts, just a figure of speech ok, don't get all wrapped around the axle on me).

Good luck to all the Drivers, let the 2007 Season begin!

I was feeling better about Gordons chances when he was on the second row.

Now I'm not so sure, with starting 42nd, nobody has ever won the 500 from farther back than 33rd. It would be nice to make history, and Jeff could win his 6th Daytona 500.

But who knows, I've still got hope!  Wink

This is the first time in 4 years I won't be at the race  Sad For anyone even remotely interested in NASCAR, this is an event that must be attended at least once. For those NASCAR fanatics, there's no excuse to never go...

The weather looks great for today, unlike the last couple years... Should be a good race!

Sunny, 55ºF High at DAB (right next to the track)
Bright, but pretty cool

My pick: Junior (Stewart leads at least 120 laps but finishes 2nd... again)
Dark horses: Jeff Gordon, only because he's starting in the basement, and Kurt Busch, who was strong in the 150 on Thursday.

Think about it. According to some here, NASCAR fans are nothing but a bunch of gun-totin', gay hating, bible thumping rednecks who are all a bunch of intolerant Republicans. Who else better is there for a token black than a gay hating one???

Of course.. I'm just kidding about actually putting him in the car, just pointing out the hypocrisy of what some people say about NASCAR fans...

Trying to gain fair-weather fans by having a big name... he will NEVER have the respect of real racing fans (much like 95% of the celebs seen in NASCAR now)

I think it makes the show. In fact, I get the impression that the producers encourage it from the fans.

But that's what separates the Daytona 500 experience from, say, the Indy 500, the Kentucky Derby, or the Masters. You don't have to be on your best behavior, you don't have to primp up to the camera while sipping a mint julep, and you certainly don't have to give a shit about what some northeastern yuppies think about you, because they're probably not watching anyway.

It's the DAYTONA 500 baby!!  bigthumbsup

No wipers, no headlights or tail lights, etc either. The car simply isn't designed to be run in the rain.
