Today I attended a good friend's funeral. Pam used to smoke, quite heavily in fact. She quit smoking a few years ago, but the damage was already done. From the time the cancer was diagnosed until Monday when she died really wasn't long. If any of you smoke, please, please try very hard to quit. If you don't smoke, please do not even consider starting.
That dreaded disease has killed my father, my mother(actually she died from emphysema caused by the smoking), my brother has had cancer scares, and now a friend of mine. Please, once again, QUIT SMOKING!!

Not an Issue for me. Smoking is something I never have, and never will try.
My condolences to your losses, I am lucky enough to have had no deaths in people near me related to smoking.....just yet. My Grandfather might be getting there soon.
Cheers
Carson

Sorry to hear about your loss(es), especially since they'd all have been so easy to avoid.
Hopefully, the current anti-smoking trend will continue and never be reversed, so one day we will have trouble finding a 12yo chain smoker. If children get the message that smoking is "uncool", they'll be much less likely to start.

That's A hard thing to get through to the young ones. A lot of kinds are getting the message that smoking IS cool from older kids, who wanna make a profit off of them, things like that.
Someone wanna tell me why kids DO think it's so cool??!?!? I am 15, in a completely redneck school where 80% of the students smoke.

If only we knew... my guess is that mostly, it's got to do with the adults who smoke. Somehow, children and young teenagers seem to envy the rights we have (God how that makes you feel old at a mere 22! ) without realising the responsibilities. As children, I bet most of us didn't care much about the consequences of our actions; that is something you need to learn from your mistakes. Unfortunately, children become addicted to smoking much faster than anyone can hope for them to realise how bad it is.
Then there's the issue of additives in cigarettes that make the "taste" sort of softer so children don't cough or cough less when they start smoking. If those were banned we might already see a significant decrease in smoking.

Sorry to hear about your friend.
I had a friend two years ago who was a straight A student. Over the summer he started smoking and doing drugs, and now he is almost failing everything. It is kinda sad.
