Three years ago I would have told you country is possibly the worst music on the face of the earth. But after I joined my fire department, I became bombarded by it, and eventually got hooked. In the back of my head I know it sounds bad to most people, but it's an addiction. So what's your opinion of it? It seems to me people either love or hate it.

Easy does it guys, I listened to country music for the past twenty-five or so years. Its the closest music type to folk that is this out there. But what I have noticed over the past several years, especially the newer male artists they all seem to sound the same at least the women are different with the types of songs they sing.

I have to agree, the new guys do sound the same.
Of course, the most annoying thing though is that since 9/11, all of the seasoned male country stars have gone ultra radical pro-war neo-conservative, while the seasoned females are maintaining middle of the road.

Quoting Cadet57 (Reply 8): Im alright with it. Im actually a fan of Toby Keith, Allan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, the Satler Bros and a few others. Its not that bad to listen to and it puts me in a good mood.
I knew there was a reason to like you
Country is my all time favorite, I enjoy songs from nearly every artist, with the ranks of Kenny Chesney ( fav #1 male singer), and Shania Twain (fav #1 woman singer), with CD's owned by LeAnn Rimes, Tim Mcgraw, Faith Hill, Reba McEntire, Gretchen Wilson (my hometown girl, shes from my area!! ).
In fact mom is blaring LeAnn Rimes song "Probably wouldn't be this way"
LeAnn Rimes famous song hit, "Blue" is what got me into country music.

"We like both kinds of music, country and western. " One of my favoite quotes from the film Blues Brothers.
I love Hank Williams. He is top 10 for me overall in any genre. Incredible lyrics. After that it goes downhill pretty fast. There's a fair amount of decent new country music but it's so close to bluegrass that it really isn't country anymore.
well, various. Jazz, Country&Western, Arab music. Rock ? Yes, I always liked Chuck Berry and the Rolling Stones. Gave up on the Rolling Stones when they became "strange" in the late 60ies but still love things of Chuck Berry. I in their days loved Petula Clark and Cliff Richard and still find Mireille Matthieu nice. I in the late 50ies early 60ies found some songs of Harry Belafonte really great.

I think currently there is a lot more creativity in country music than in rock/pop. Also, the definition of what country is seems to be expanding. I like music that hasn't been produced and processed to death. A lot of pop music reminds me of Spam.

I used to think country music was for hicks and people who drive pick up trucks until this Thursday. My ipod's battery had died and I borrowed my friends iPod since we had the same class together. He likes country music so I decided to listen to a bit of it. I found it to be pretty good for the most part. The music was about real life and how it effects people. I still won't be a fan but my opinion and thoughts about it are changed. True, all the guy singers sound pretty much the same.
