Hello everyone,

I am going to Ecuador for my spring break and i had some questions for anyone who lives or has been to Ecuador.

So i'm going into Quito on DL through ATL.

I'm goning to be there for about 9 days, and I'll be going to Banos, and Otavalo as well as be in Quito.

Anything to see/do in those places?

How's the weather in Mid-March down there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks...

BlueElephant

Well I´m German but I lived for about 7 years in Ecuador ...

In Banos you should visit the thermal water swimming pools and maybe the tunguraghua Volcano also Riobamba the old capital city of Ecuador , in Otavalo the Market !

And in Quito the historic center (incredible!!) maybe also go to the " Center of the World " where the Ecuador passes . In Quito also the Panecillo , Guapulo , the Cotopaxi volcano ,

but if you go to Ecuador you should visit the Galapagos Islands that´s the most beautiful Place I´ve ever seen !

And of course spot at the Quito Airport !

If you need more Info just PM ...  Wink

I forgot the Amazonas Region , there are some beautiful Hotels like the "Casa del Suizo" ("House of the Swiss") in the middle of the virgin forest , that´s truly amazing there with many animals like Anacondas and so on ...

LHRStarAlliance,

Thanks a lot for your help,

I won't have time to go to the Galapagos, but i would if i had time.

I am going for a Community service project and only have about 4 out of my 9 days for sightseeing...so am trying to figure out what to do.

What are the markets at Otavalo...we were told they're good to bargain at, but what can you get there.

You called?

I haven't lived there for a while but I still have family there.

The market at Otavalo is pretty good for clothing and textiles, but you have to learn how to haggle. But as a foreigner, realize that you will be overcharged.

Take the slow drive to Otavalo, there are plenty of sights to see, and plenty of microclimates.

Banos is good from what I am told, but I have never been there.

Don't take anything to Ecuador that you don't want stolen! Unfortunate but true. When I took my wife, I had her leave her wedding ring behind.

If you get a chance, go to GYE. The flight is short and the city is vastly improved and very, very lively.

My Spanish is pretty solid, and i don't have an american accent. Will this improve my chances of getting Less overcharged?

won't have a chance to go to GYE...will be with a group of 13 people  Sad

How about the Quito airport...i heard they just made it nice and modern. will be coming in on Delta....arriving late in the evening...so any cool planes to see?

No, my wife is the one who got the advantaga by looking so Hispanic. I look quite European. But I just give you the warning so you know that you should haggle for price, in a good way.

727s and some other oldies, plus other airlines you are not used to seeing. You can easily spot around the aiport.

Yeah there are some 727 of Tame (see my profile to see a pic) also some DC10s freighters , MD11 of KL also 343 of Iberia , 330 Air Europa ... The approach it´s superb , it looks like you´ll land on the houses .

Well I lived there 7 years and just get stolen one time ( they almost killed us )

Otavalo : I´ld not visit Otavalo IMHO it´s not so interesting as the Cotopaxi Volcano , I suggest you to go there instead of Otavalo ...

Cotopaxi :
