McCain: American Lives "Wasted" In Iraq

When Sen. Obama said lives had been "wasted" in Iraq, the entire right-wing machine flared up and forced the senator to apologize for his remarks. Conservative blogger Michelle Malkin had some fairly harsh words for him:

Quoting http://michellemalkin.com/archives/006858.htm:

it would be a waste of breath trying to get Sen. Obama to acknowledge the existence of countless soldiers and their families who reject his patronizing, infantilizing, and insulting view of all American troops as dupes/victims who have squandered their lives.

Fast forward to February 28th, and Sen. McCain announces his candidacy for president on Letterman, saying Americans "are very frustrated, and they have every right to be. We've wasted a lot of our most precious treasure, which is American lives, over there."

What does Michelle say?

http://michellemalkin.com/archives/006968.htm

Nothing.  scratchchin

The right-wing machine? Veritable crickets.

Where's our apology?

Well, Obama, today was trying to clarify McCain's statement. I think he's referring to lack of troop strengths in the Iraq war. I mean, he is one of the hawks on the war, so I think we can infer it was a poor choice of words, like Obama. But, McCain numbers are trailing Guiliani by 14 pts. He needs to tread lightly and choose better words to get his point across.

Not quite.

Even FOX - the uber-right wing news - called him on it.

Quoting AeroWesty (Thread starter):

Screw that.

Obama's context was entirely different, you know and anyone with any sense knows it.

I disagree with the term used in EITHER context, because we haven't WASTED any lives.

Were you going to mention the part where Sen. McCain retracted and apologized, or were you only going to mention HALF the story. Of course, we wouldn't want to post it all now would we . . . . might make the point moot, eh.  wink

See all I've seen so far is a correction, no one demanding an apology. It was the same word used in the same context, but no apology.

One reason why his (McCain) presidential bid might far short of the nomination.

Of course its a double standard..I remember flipping channels a couple of years ago, still remember Ann Coulter call Rumsfield the best SOD this country ever had, and just last week Sen. McCain stated he thought Rumsfield was one of if not the worst SOD. Where was the right regarding this comment?

Should be fun to watch McCain get a round of the Flip-Flop machine, provided any of the candidates are up for it. And this ain't the first time he was against something before he was for it - had a list somewhere that had been compiled on a Liberal forum, but I kinda lost it Big grin

Even though I don't agree with him on everything, I've liked McCain, and certainly have to respect his contribution to the nation. I'm a bit concerned that we're not going to be holding him to the same standards as all the other candidates. When these kinds of statements come up, it shouldn't matter who said it, it should be dealt with equally.

Colmes is Hannity's whipping boy, gives the appearance of Fair and Balanced. Greta is obnoxiously ignorant, couldn't hack it at CNN so she bailed out. Ever met her, I have. Not as bad as that nancy grace twit, but bad enough. Geraldo is a has been - perhaps a "never was" - couldn't find a secret compartment and couldn't keep his trap shut in a combat zone.

Next?

He wears tight jeans when reporting in the field. Then puts some object below the waist line so the camera has to pan down.

Sounds like a bunch of excuses and personal opinion. FOX gives Republicans AND Democrats an equal chance to be heard. Something that the other networks don't do.

Thats correct, and FOX is no exception to that rule.

There is no such thing as an unbiased national news network these days.

Right. I realize that FOX isn't perfect, but they offer the best mix of viewpoints from both sides.

Don't disagree.

That was NOT the question nor the point.

Can you dispute Colmes is not Hannity's lackey?

Can you dispute Greta couldn't report her way out of the ladie's room? She only has this job because of the OJ trial.

And Jeraldo, you're kidding, right? He blew it in Iraq while being imbedded. Did he not?

Dispute any of the above three points.
