Pretty funny excuse IMO.

He had a bunch of guns and drugs in there. Nice going, John.

Inside the black Mercedes SUV, officers found a cache of weapons and a small amount of marijuana, the Patrol said. A police dog searched the vehicle, finding numerous hidden compartments containing four rifles, nine handguns and a switchblade knife. Authorities also found a Taser and night vision goggles.
The vehicle also had flashing emergency headlights, a siren and a public address system, the Patrol said.

He's been watching the Discovery Channel too much. The upcoming Cascadia earthquake and tsunami will be bad, but blinky headlights, a cheap siren, and some guns ain't gonna save him.

And Open and shut case.
Sounds like he was giving the cops the "Run Around".

He lives quite near me....I will be on the lookout for this SUV with lights and stuff. Fortunately, with that amount of weapons, he doesn't live THAT close!

The drugs I get (he's been popped on drug charges before), guns, WTF? I always figured he was a bit of a hippy and wouldn't even want to be anywhere near a weapon.

Didn't he used to wear a bandolier (sic?) like an old western gunfighter with grenades (perhaps dummy ones?) clipped to it when in concert?

If you read the article further, you will note that he wasn't arrested on gun charges, only for the pot.

Quoting Graphic (Reply 9): The fact that he had them in the first place is freaky enough.

So what he had guns. God forbid he protects himself.
He was prepared. Good for him.
BTW Jack Bauer called he wants his truck back.

One more time for those who don't read...he wasn't arrested for the guns.
As long as he had the appropriate licenses and was carrying them in the car according to the laws of the local jurisdiction then there is no issue with having 1 gun or 1000 guns in the car.
He got busted for doing 110mph which opened him up to the search based on probable cause which turned up the pot. Normal folks don't cruise down the highway doing 110 (I only do 90 here in ATL) so the cops had a reason to suspect he might have been up to something, into something, or on something and thus the search. The guns were never an issue but just add a funny twist to the story due to his crazy apocalypse reasoning behind it.
Edit: He wasn't driving, someone else was. He was a passenger in his own car.
