Breakout - Swing Out Sisters
It's My Life - Talk Talk
Boys Gonna Rock - Vinnie Vincent Invasion
(over the top glam rock video you can see at youtube)
Emotion - Samantha Sang
Disco Night - GQ
St. Elmo's Fire - John Parr
Bang - Gorky Park
Voices Carry - Til Tuesday
Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
Obsession - Animotion
One Night In Bangkok - Murray Head
A fantastic song. This was only a one-hit wonder in the US. James had a long career in the UK with many hit singles and high-charting albums. One of my all-time favourite bands.
Quoting Solnabo (Reply 3): Saturday Night - Whigfield
Wanna sex you up - Color Me Badd
Jump - Kriss Kross
You know this isn't a parody thread, right?
As for me, I'm going to go with 'Walking in Memphis' by Marc Cohn. Strictly not a one-hit wonder in the US, but he never had much chart presence in the UK other than this song. And it's a classic.

Quoting Superfly (Reply 2): It's My Life - Talk Talk
One Night In Bangkok - Murray Head
Talk Talk had a few songs that were good. They're not one hit wonders eventhough barely.
One Night In Bangkok was created for a play in the theaters. I thought the same once, but Murray Head are not a band.

In NA Eiffel 65 with "Blue" The only thing is they had much more success if Europe, and I am still able to get some Eiffel 65 songs from Europe its a shame really they did not do any better in the NA market, instead we have "crap" like rap and that hip hop stuff.

Split Enz were immensely popular in Oz and NZ. "I Got You" was mainstream, but the rest of their stuff was played on alternative stations (like 91X in San Diego (back in the early 80s)).

Quoting Mirrodie (Thread starter): One hit can also be counted as one-album wonder, where they had 2-3 hits on the same album and were then never heard from again
In this case, I'll throw in 4 Non Blondes' "Bigger, Better, Faster, More".
Gotta love Linda Perry.

"One of us" by Joan Osborne....the songs alright but the album "Relish" was awesome, so are her other four albums
Quoting Thom@s (Reply 12): Rubbish song, but a brilliant example of how a catchy tune with lyrics written in half a minute by a 5 year old will still become very popular.

The song however is credited as being performed by Murray Head.

31 MaverickM11: No, just an example of lyrics written by a five year old.
32 Superfly: Wow, that's never been played on the radio hear sense 1985 when it was a hit. Sounds like music radio in Norway is better than here.

41 ThePRGuy: Isn't that Lew's all time favourite? :P Thanks Alex
42 Bwest: Level 42 was / is quite well known overhere. I loved the new radicals, knew the cd almost by heart... Wasn't there some controversy around Gregg Alex
43 Andz: Obe of my all time favourite bands, I have several of their albums on vinyl and CD. Level 42 were huge here in their heyday.
44 EWS: Damn and i thought everyone forgot about that video! Lew
45 EWS: Chesney Hawkes! (Anogram: Cheesey Wanks) What a legend! Lew

55 NWOrientDC10: Are you thinking of "Take on Me"?
56 NWOrientDC10: A-ha sang "Take on Me" I think it was released in 1985.
57 Zippyjet: Very good but, the original version one ups Soft Cell's only hit. Originially from 1964 by Gloria Jones. Here's a link so you can hear it. http://www

68 Mirrodie: Lipps, Inc. "Funkytown" Devo "Whip it Good"
69 ShyFlyer: Most likely because the Rascal Flatts version is on the Cars soundtrack. Cochrane's version was much better.
