Are there any sites to see in the cities of Barcelona, Madrid, AMS (aside from the Anne Frank house, varoius hash bars and Redlight district), Florance, Athens and Portugual.

There is plenty to see in London, Paris and Rome since alot of things are centrally located and it takes a day and a half to see but what about the other cities i mentioned?

also is there anything to see in Cairo? I know a friend who can only stay in CAI for a day. He can't go to the Pyramids because they are way too far so is there anything in the city he can do or see? How is the night life?

Thanks in advance

If you're even remotely interested in architecture, Barcelona is THE place to be! Especially anything by Gaudi is amazing! e.g. La Sagrada Familia, Park Guell,... are fantastic. Also the Olympic Village and La Rambla are great places to visit. I don't know much about the other cities, sorry...

In my personal opinion (having worked there for several years) Amsterdam is a dump unless you want what you mentioned or old paintings (the Rijksmuseum, Gemeentemuseum and Van Gogh Museum are great).

In summer, a day or two there wandering around can be nice for Americans, as it is an old city.
Take a canal tour, too. It's nice if the weather is good.

I wish I were flying

How about Lisbon and Milan? Anything to see there? Is it worth the expensive train trip?

Hey, if your going in the Europe summer, I suggest a trip to the Balearics, Palma de Mallorca and Mahon (Minorca) are great places to visit (as long as you know reasonable Spanish).

When you hear the noise of the Tartan Army Boys, we'll be coming down the road!

Gkirk; Thank's for the advice but it's for a friend. He wants to travel outside of the usual London, Paris and Rome. He was going to visit Rome again but so many airlines are canceling service or pulling out completly due to FCO being more of a leasure destiantion. Milan according to the airline industry is a good money maker so he is going to go there along with BCN, MAD and possibly AMS or Lisbon. If he has enough time he can visit Cairo.

Stick to Florence and Athens for culture and western civ history. Antiquity to numberous to list. Monuments in Greece. Museums in Florence (the best in the world--save maybe the Louvre).

Cairo is cool too. However, it is a DRAG is you are there by yourself.

My friend plan to go to Cairo with his best friend and his gf and her friend. I know Cairo can be a drag esp when trying to get into the few clubs there. I wish there were clubs there like Club Exit in NYC. 4 floors for diferent music like Rap, Ragee, house, and trance. Florence and Atens sounds good. He also decided to go to Rome instead of mialn because the atmosphere isn't the same like in Rome. Rome has more sights to see than Milan which is more fashion/business oriented.
