I am very surprised to see no one has mentioned this today.
Today is March 11th, 3 years since the bombings in Madrid which cost the lives of 192 people and injured 2,050 ! I want to make a tribute to all those victims of this terrible bombing ! R.I.P

a monument has been inagurated in Atocha train station in memory of this tragedy

Time does fly, I well remember I had just dropped my wife off to work as her car was broken or something, and I decided to swing by one of the frequent spotting areas at Toulouse airport, turned on France Info and heard of a bomb in Madrid. As I had lived there for 10 years and feel very close to the city and its people (and that I have friends and relatives (my wife's family) there), I drove home and watched TeleMadrid on satellite TV. What a day. I had one friend who just left Atoch as a bomb went off, and another very close Irish friend who was on a train just behind one of the trains in the suburbs that exploded(can't remember which station I know it wasn't Coslada) and he ended up helping take the injured off the train and saw numerous bodies. In the end, he lost an ex-colleague in one of the explosions. Another very close friend (from Lausanne, close to you RootsAir!) missed the train that morning that she usually tried to catch... that train had a bomb on it.

As RootsAir said, I also think it's a pity there has been so little response here, but people may be paying tribute another way.

May all the victims Rest In Peace and Good bless the many injured and their family and friends.

RootsAir... funny you got the article from The Irish Times... do you read that often in Switzerland??

Damn, 3 years... seems like yesterday! I wasn't personally affected (as in losing a friend or relative), but this kind of disregard for human life makes me sick.  mad

May all the victims rest in peace, and may we never have to hear of such a coward act again...

Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

This is the still "veiled" memorial at Atocha,

erected in memory of this tragedy.  candle   candle   candle   tombstone
