Ah, thanks! This end, all these terms of endearment (chav etc.) seemed to describe basically the same.

'Tis true. Pikey is a few years old now, and USED to have to same meaning as chav. Nowadays, as James said, it's means a gypsy/traveller. Chav defines much more what pikey used to try to describe!

Just as with the classic "Germans" episode of Fawlty Towers, I thought the French character (in this case) comes out of it rather nicely. It's the English who are hideous.
