I'm planning a 2-week trip to Greece this summer with the family. My 85 year-old father-in-law is Greek, and we want to go with him while he is still here and able to travel. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime trip for all of us.
I'd like to see if anyone here has experienced Greece and have any suggestions as to how best to get around the mainland and any hotels of the two or three star variety, and any favorite islands.
We want to develop our own itinerary. We aren't looking at joining a tour, except for perhaps a day trip out of Athens to Delphi & Corinth. I'm looking at Meteora, and an obligatory trip to Thessalonki (Salonica) for family connections. My son would like to get to Corfu - for the airport, I'm sure - but that might be out of the way. I'm also looking a flight from Thessaloniki (Salonica) to Samos so we can visit Ephesus, Turkey.
While we might spend a night or two on the island of Mykonos, we'd also like a couple of days on a quiet, beautiful beach away from the pricey, developed areas.
Any suggestions?

Delphi is nice. Corinthos is nothing special.
I would advise you to visit Naflpio (it is a very picturesque town and used to be the capital of Greece) and Mycene (=Mikines, in Greek) which is the homeland of Agamemnon. It s 2h out of Athens and there are regular coach services every day.
