**Rant and bitch warning**
Right, so I've just got my laptop back from being fixed, so time to remigrate my stuff back over. I used my iPod to transfer some .exe installers, and my photos. I copy and paste this into a folder called Laptop (so inventive aren't I ) And then unplug from my desktop, and into the laptop. I drag the crap from the iPod to the desktop, install the stuff (iTunes 6, Photoshop, Guitar Pro, and some other stuff) and then drag my guitar pro files (http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.php) to My Documents and My Pictures. Now, I selected certain folders to drag becaue i have almost 4gb of photos (No, not porn, but holiday snaps and stuff ) Go onto MSN to choose a new display picture, and all of one folder is gone, my mobile phone photo folder is empty (but the subfolders are not) So i check back on the desktop, and they aren't there either. Whiskey. Tango. F**king. Foxtrot. Both my recycle bins are empty, and i sure as hell didn't delete them. How can i get them back? Some of the pics were sentimental, some of our trips, some were just downright retarded Grr.... fucking Windows.

I don't know if this will help you any --- sometimes kind of hard to understand these computer problem discriptions without actually seeing them. Why can't you just copy your stuff again? But if for some reason you can't do that, this is how I check my son's computer to keep the porn off of it:
1. Right click on the start button, and click explore.
2. click "C" Drive (assuming you only have one drive)
3. Right click "search"
4. Since most picture files have extension .jpg, do a search for *.jpg, than hit search. Might take a little while but it will find all your porno pictures.
5. If you have the "view"set for "thumbnails" you can see the pictures, and if you set it for details you can see where they are located.
It could be you put the stuff somewhere you didn't think, or it could be that somehow the file extensions got set for hidden or protected or something your application does not like. Hope that helps. If you find any files you can right click on them and use the "properties" to see if the file extension is "hidden".

LOL, well, they aren't porn, but some quite sentimental photos. I can't just copy them from my desktop because that seems to have deleted them too. Hmmm. All the photos are on a separate drive from my Windows installation, I have a 120gb C drive and a 40GB media drive. I don't have a copy anywere else, but I'm really confused as to how this happened.

I had a similar issue with some coursework back when I was in school. PC did a blip as I was dragging it over, and the lot went. That taught me though to always keep backups and not to drag stuff, copy and only delete the file from it's last location when I am sure it's transferred successfully.
