Just happened in Nashville.....Nashville's Jordan Tootoo suckerpunched Dallas's Stephane Robidas. Tootoo checked Mike Modano from the back, then went Kermit Washington on Robidas who was coming up to back up Modano.

Idiot referee Kerry Frasier (who else) only gave Tootoo a double minor. Rest assured the league will take a closer look at this one.

Doesn't say a lot about a league that trying to promote itself when two of its thugs (Simon, and now Tootoo) go around trying to decapitate players.

Btw, Modano has two goals in this game.....he passes Joey Mullen for the most goals in NHL history by a US born player.

Now we just need Bertuzzi for the trifecta....

He also gave Robidas a charging call, probably the first time anyone ever charged with their face

Fraser, along with Mick McGough are two refs the league needs to fire. Whenever there's a controversial call or on-ice incident, it usually seems to involves them. I think the years of hair care products they used to seal their hair helmets has killed more than enough brain cells.

As for Tootoo, he's a bit of a scrapper since he's small in comparison the the majority of the other players in the league. His first season with the Preds (2003-2004) he was in 16 fights, and this season (to date) he has been in 12 fights. Last season, he wasn't in that many fights (1 with the Preds, 4 while with Milwaukee), and the lockout season he had a total of 12 playing for Milwaukee. If he doesn't get a suspension for this incident, then it is an extreme oversight, especially in the wake of the Chris Simon incident.

Throw in McCreary and THAT would be the perfect trifecta..

In regards to Tootoo, he is a no-talent thug who has no business on the ice (ala Simon). He pulled the same crap earlier this season against the Blues and before Jamal Mayers had a chance to beat his ass in retaliation Tootoo bugged out....

And you left out a lot of details.

First, I was at the game, just got home, witnessed it first hand.

Tootoo, while one of my least favorite Predators, was not in the wrong here. He cleanly hit Madano, and then Robidas did charge Tootoo. Tootoo with natural instinct, turned around and tried to defend himself as Robidas was trying to cheap-shot him. You left out the fact that Robidas was hit with Tootoos GLOVE. He did not drop his gloves. You also kindly left out that Madano himself, then took a two handed swat at Tootoo WITH HIS STICK, which he was not penalized for.

In the end, you will see more fines and penalties come out for more than just Tootoo, or it will be dropped as just as it should be, which was simply defending oneself.

Oh, and Preds won the game, 3-2.

I'd be interested to know how many times it was replayed on the Videotron for you fans...I'm guessing very few if any. I saw it replayed any number of times on FSN this evening...while Tootoo's original check on Modano appeared legal, barely, his about face and uppercut of Robidas (with or without his gloves on), was completely unwarranted and unprovoced.

Take the time one day soon to watch the Kermit Washington one-punch knockout of Rudy Tomjanovich years ago in eerily similar circumstances and you'll see how dangerous something like that can become.

I appreciate the fact that you're a Preds fan, and props to the Preds for winning tonight, btw they won because Vokoun stood on his head in that game...that doesn't change anything, though.....Tootoo will still have a date with Colin Campbell within the next few days.

This "charge" by Robidas probably was also due to the fact that earlier in the game, I think late in the first, Tootoo hit Madano then too.. That was two hits on him.. I said to my buddy after the first hit Tootoo needed to go hide for a few minutes because that hit was harder than the second one!

I'll still say, this was a defensive move on Tootoos part. Again, not one of my favorite Predators.. in fact, with all these injuries, I've seen WAY too much of Tootoo lately.. The crowd even has these stupid train whistles they start blowing whenever he hits the ice..

I again made a comment to my friend, "how is it, we have a Peter Foresburg and a Paul Karyia on this team, but only when Jordin Tootoo hits the ice does the crowd get excited..."

I'll never understand it. I guess thats hockey in Nashville.

If he just would've put is hand up to absorb some of the hit (which was coming, regardless of what the announcers say, it's obvious Robidas was going to nail him) instead of letting one fly, none of this would've happened. I like how Modano tries to break his stick across Tootoo's back and doesn't get a call. BS right there. Regardless of what else is happening on the ice at the time, Modano deserved two minutes for that. For those who saw it, what would you call it? Slashing or High-sticking?

That's a shame. Watching Modano blow off a few young children asking for autographs, he seemed like a real jerk.

He's long been considered to be a jerk, not as big of one as J.R. though. He was part of the infamous trash the rooms in Nagano incident and acted like a jerk about that as well. Then during the lockout made the comment about not being able to feed his dog because of money.  redflag  It just shows that he's out of touch with the real world.

I'm not Modano's biggest fan either. Though I can't speak to his actions around his fans, I had forgotten that he was one of the leaders of the trashing of Nagano. And his across-the-back at Tootoo does warrant further review.

Preds played a great game, though. They'll be a force to deal with in the playoffs.

The players are certainy shooting themselves in the foot this year, behaviourly speaking. North American hockey will always be viewed as a brutal sport and will get a few of these "black eye for the league" stories every year, but there have been too many ugly incidents latlely.

Tough to say where this evolution in my beloved sport will go, but I remind everyone who is and even those who aren't big fans of hockey, that it is played with what can be used as a weapon in your hands at all times. Hockey has been played for decades with its share of stick related fouls and injuries, some very serious, but that's the risk of competition. Don't forget that the vast majority of games are played free of dirty fouls
That said, I would agree that the league needs to get some different on ice officiating.

Tootoo's out of control. He's got little man's syndrome to the max. He tried his antics when the Preds played the Wings in back to back games last week. End result was the Wings taking both games. And that was without Bertuzzi and 4 of their key players. They match up again on the 29th but unfortunately, I think that will be the 5th game of Tootoo's suspension. Too bad. It'd be fun to see Bertuzzi swat him like a little gnat. I hope he enjoys his 5 game vacation. Not exactly what I'd call a "team player".

I don't. Modano has somehow avoided the "limelight" for years now. He's always acted like some spoiled rich boy who never gets caught. What an ass...

Maybe, but what I'd call him is an enforcer. Too bad he doesn't really play on a line that needs one.

Umm.. no.

Preds were short:

Forsburg
Sullivan
Nichol
Hartnell
Erat

THAT'S why the Predators lost..

And your excuse for the fact that the Wings' record against the Predators thus far this season is 5-1-1 would be? Let me help you out....the Wings are simply a better team.

GO WINGS! I'm not so sure that the Wings are a better team, they just happen to match up against the Preds a little better then most teams. Call it what you may...

The real test will the be the first round of the playoffs. If the Wings can get out of the first round fairly quickly, I think they will go to the Cup. Damn that jinx....

I always thought the name Nashville Predators sucked. They should have called themselves Nashville's Hicks With Sticks! You could have had the white trash section, and the cheerleaders could have been called the trailer park mommas! Complete with beehive hairdo's and rhinestone reading glasses!

It's the damn President's Trophy jinx. For that reason, I hope the Preds or, the Sabres or well, anyone but the Ducks takes the trophy and we can get on with the playoffs. One thing that must happen in order for the Wings to take the cup this year is Datsyuk has to continue to perform as he has in the regular season. If he and Zetterberg are on their game, the Wings will be unbeatable. And the first time Tootoo takes a run at either one of them, Bertuzzi will squash him like a bug.
